Principal's Corner

Happy March Families,

It is hard to believe that we only have 3 months of school left in this school year!

Spring is approaching and learning continues to be in full swing here at Newberry Alternative School. Studies show that this is the time of year that students make the most academic and social learning improvements. Make school a priority. Very soon the weather will change with spring right around the corner. It can be challenging to keep our children focused on learning. What can you do to make school a top priority for your child? Keep these ideas in mind:

  • Make attendance your number one priority
  • Show you care.
  • Remain positive. Try to set a positive example for your child, even when your own day has been challenging.

Just a reminder - our afterschool tutoring is offered for students. Parents would need to inform the teacher 24 hours in advance if additional assistance is needed.

Again, THANK YOU for being our partners in this important work helping your child achieve and prepare for their future!

Free Tutoring!

From SC Department of Education:

As we move into the last few months of the school year, some students may find themselves in need of additional academic support. The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and the South Carolina State Library (SCSL) are partnering to offer free online tutoring services, provided by Tutor.com, to any student in South Carolina. In addition to tutoring in content areas, students may also drop off papers for review, seek help in test preparation, or ask specific questions about their work. The around-the-clock service is available seven days per week.

The link provided here, Accessing Tutor.com via Discus | Discus (scdiscus.org), provides an explanation on how to access the online tutoring service through Discus which is the SCSL's electronic library. Please share this information with teachers and parents who may want to take advantage of the free service.
