Tucson Unified Parents – Join Us on Zoom for this Two-Part Lunch and Learn Series
Session Two: Power of Parents and RX360
Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s Power of Parents Program emphasizes that communication is KEY! Parents are a youth’s leading resource when it comes to making healthy choices. This program helps parents use the power they have to keep their kids safe through ongoing, critical conversations with their children about alcohol and other drugs. MADD works with not only parents but grandparents, caregivers and school staff who raise and/or care for teens. This evidence-based program, when used with college-aged students, showed a 30% reduction in drinking compared to students whose parents did not use the program materials. Rx360 is a research-based curriculum to raise awareness of the Rx problem, the risks of misuse, resistance strategies, and methods for proper storage and disposal of prescription medications. Other information shared includes the dangers of fentanyl and other opioids, how to reverse an overdose with Narcan, how to advocate for substance misuse prevention, and information on how trauma, toxic stress, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) influence risky behaviors and can lead to substance use disorder.
