Literacy/Reading
We are continuing our unit on Historical Fiction. We analyzed the book, Pink and Say, which is about two boys who were in the Civil War and the trials and tribulations they went through. Using the book, we practiced getting into a character's shoes or trying to see the world through the character's eyes.
Next week, we will continue working on Historical Fiction by delving into a historical fiction novel study. Please ask your child what novel they are reading. Most of this reading will take place at school, but students are expected to be reading another book of their choice at home and when they complete the required chapters in their class novel.
Math
This week in math we are digging into our fractions unit. We are exploring fractions, decomposing fractions, and finding equivalent fractions. Next week we will be comparing and ordering fractions, and looking at improper fractions and mixed numbers. Continue to have your child practice their math facts in order to become fluent with their multiplication tables.
Science
Students are finishing up Light with an assessment. A study guide was sent home and the test will be on Friday.
As we wrap up fossils students will create a fossil dig with a dinosaur skeleton...
We will start on Rocks, Minerals, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Weathering and Erosion!
