Addition MAP Testing Information for Parents
2. MAP Testing takes place on computers and mirrors similar activities previously performed on the computer. In K, it is taken in the computer lab, at a scheduled time during the AM hours. In grades 1st-5th, the test is taken in the classroom with individual laptops.
3. Computers are set up for whole class testing, and students will receive help logging off and on the computer as needed by the classroom teacher. If a student has technological issues during the MAP test, they are instructed to raise their hands for assistance. We work closely with our Tech Department to ensure our devices are working properly before the test.
4. MAP total testing times vary in length (although unlimited time given) and are standardized by grade level. Approx. 30 minutes in K and up to 75 minutes in 5th grade. Breaks are given by teachers and students are encouraged to take mental breaks (these are practiced throughout the year).
5. MAP Tests are adaptive in nature and subsequent items on the MAP Test are presented to students based on previously answered items at the beginning of the test. For example, if your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier.
6. If students are absent on the day of the test, an opportunity to retake the test will be given.
7. All accommodations on current 504's and IEPs will be honored during the MAP Test.
Most Importantly....
MAP Testing Results are ONE snapshot of student academic progress. We use this measurement, alongside MANY other forms of assessment (formal and informal) to gauge progress. Encourage students to do their best- as you would do any other day, with any other assignment or test.

A Note from Mrs. Trinidad: Innovation Lab Teacher
Students are working diligently in our newly launched Innovation Lab. It’s only been a few weeks, and I’m already so proud and pleased at how eager and engaged they have been in our learning! 4th and 5th grade students are exploring the science of flight. This past week, they build teeter-totters to explore balanced and unbalanced forces. In grades 1,2,3 our students have been exploring structure and function of everyday objects. Pairs of students went on a photo scavenger hunt with their iPads to think deeper about the structure and function of an object of their choice. We are learning that we each have the talents and skills required to be engineers and designers.
