Week 3
Week 3 Notes
We had a great third week of school! This week, we made some big strides in getting to know your child academically. The students wrapped up their first writing sample, met one-on-one with their teacher for a reading assessment, and completed our initial math and reading screeners. Throughout the week, our staff reviewed the results with each other and with the students, themselves. We're ready to start pushing our students to grow and learn!
Question of the Week
One of reading assessments, by the authors Fountas and Pinell, assigns a letter from A-Z to a student's ability to read and comprehend a short passage. The F&P system also assigns letters to books that students find in the library or online (For Example, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is appropriate for level V readers). This week, ask your child "What book are you currently reading? and "What level is the book?" All students at RMS know what level books are appropriate for them to read. It's also a great opportunity to join in and read alongside your child.
