CMS Friday Focus
CHESTERTON MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - January 20, 2023
Dear CMS Families,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend! Just a friendly reminder that there is no school for students on Monday, January 23. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 24.
Each of the 10 Duneland School Corporation schools, in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Education, is working toward renewing its distinction as a Family Friendly School. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure that each DSC school is demonstrating excellence in engaging families in their children’s education.
Launched in 2015, the Family Friendly Schools initiative focuses on addressing the academic, physical, emotional, and social needs of students while providing the needed resources and fostering the active involvement of their families through schools and the community. The program recognizes and honors schools that welcome all families into the school community, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community.
As part of this process, students in grades 5-12 will be asked to take a 5-minute survey. The survey is linked HERE. Students will take this survey at their school the week of January 24th. Thank you for your support!
Announcements:
Please remind your children that they must be passing all of their classes at grade checks in order to be eligible to participate in CMS Athletics. Grade checks occur at the mid-term and end of each grading period (every 4.5 weeks). If you have any questions, please contact the CMS Athletic Director, Rich Gross, at rgross@duneland.k12.in.us.
Reminders:
If you are dropping something off to your child after school for extra-curricular activities or any other reason prior to 3:30 p.m., you must use the main office entrance, located at Door 1 on Morgan Avenue.
Parents who are picking up their child or dropping something off for their child must present a driver's license or state ID to our office staff in order to do so. Also, if a parent sends someone else to pick their student up or drop something off for them, they must not only present identification but must also be on the list in Skyward as a family or emergency contact.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Respectfully,
Mike Hamacher
CMS Principal
