Children who Appear to be Unconscious

  1. Check for Responsiveness
  2. Call 9-1-1
  3. Open the Airway
  4. Check for Breathing
  5. Give 2 Rescue Breaths
  6. Quickly Scan for Severe Bleeding

Children who are Conscious but Choking

  1. Give 5 Back Blows
  2. Give 5 Abdominal Thrusts
  3. Continue Care

Children who are Unconscious and Choking

  1. Give Rescue Breaths
  2. Give Chest Compressions
  3. Look for and Remove Object if Seen
  4. Give 2 Rescue Breaths

Adults who Appear to be Unconscious

CPR for Children and Adults who aren't Breathing

  1. Give 30 Chest Compressions
  2. Give 2 Rescue breaths
  3. Do Not Stop CPR until they are okay or someone else takes over

AED for Children and Adults who aren't Breathing

  1. Turn on AED
  2. Wipe Bare Chest Dry
  3. Attach pads
  4. Plug in Connector (if necessary)
  5. Stand Clear
  6. Analyze heart Rhythm
  7. Deliver Shock
  8. Perform CPR

Children and Adults who are Having a Seizure

  1. Call or have Someone Call 9-1-1
  2. Remove nearby Objects
  3. Monitor condition after seizure passes

Children and Adults who Appear to be Poisoned

  1. Call 9-1-1 or Poison Control Hotline (1-800-222-1222)
  2. Provide Care

Children and Adults who are Suffering Burns

  1. Remove from Source of Burn
  2. Cool the Burn
  3. Cover Loosely with Sterile Dressing
  4. Call 9-1-1
  5. Care for Shock

Children and Adults who are Externally Bleeding

  1. Cover the Wound
  2. Apply Direct Pressure until Bleeding Stops
  3. Cover the Dressing with Bandage
  4. Apply more Pressure and Call 9-1-1

Children and Adults with Head, Neck or Spinal Injuries

  1. Call 9-1-1 or the Local Emergency Number
  2. Minimize Movement
  3. Stabilize Head

Children and Adults who Appear to be Having a Stroke

  1. Try to Determine the Time when the Stroke Began
  2. Call 9-1-1
  3. Provide Care
