PRINCIPAL AND VICE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are now a few weeks into welcoming some of our students back into the building and itโs been an amazing experience. Walking down the hallways, you hear teachers teaching their lessons with animation and joy. You see students sitting at their desks, reading books, occasionally doing brain breaks, and thoroughly enjoying their time. Itโs starting to feel more normal in our building again, although we know that it wonโt be totally normal until our entire community is welcomed back into the building.
This week we are celebrating School Volunteer Week! Volunteering at Bonny Slope looked very different this year. We had an active BSCO that planned events for our school, from a modified Monster Mash to a Valentineโs Celebration and even Art Literacy. We also relied on our families at home more than ever before by asking you to create optimal learning environments for your children, and supporting them daily in their learning. So weโve expanded our concept of volunteers to include everyone in our community this year. Thank you for all that you have done for our students! To celebrate, weโve created a little video for all of you.
We wanted mention the opportunity for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students this year to participate in state testing. To minimize the impact on classroom instruction, testing will be on Wednesdays in our building and will be open to students in those grade levels, whether they are in-person instruction or CDL. Please know that this is optional! You will not be receiving the amount of information youโve usually received as these tests have been reduced significantly in length. Please let us know by April 30th whether or not you want your student(s) to participate by filling out this form.
We are also happy to share that Bonny Slope Jog-a-Thon lives! Students will be able to participate from their homes and gather their miles. The Jog-a-Thon will start on May 3rd and go until May 9th. Please see below for more information about this opportunity.
We recently had our Picture Day at our school. It was fun to see our students and families coming back to the campus, if even for a brief moment to participate in a time-honored tradition of school photos. If you were unable to attend and would like to purchase pictures, please contact Dorian Studios (800-826-3535) for other opportunities. If you would like to submit your own photo to be included in the yearbook, please see information below from BSCO.
During the first eight months of our school year, people would ask us how it was to be in our building without our students. โEmptyโ was our common response. We now have a deep appreciation for the fact that while four walls make up the school building, itโs the people that walk inside its walls that make the school. Thanks for making our school so special!

BSE Community with students attending In-Person Instruction
Your students have adjusted to all of the processes in place to keep them safe and healthy and are steadfast in making sure learning is happening during their time in the building. There are a few items that we want to cover with you as we get used to being in the building:
- Please make sure that you make your appointments outside of your childโs time with the teacher. Our students have two hours and fifteen minutes to cover reading, writing, math and some health. We want to make useful of every single minute with your child!
- If you drop your child off in a car in the morning, the only place you may drop your child off is in front of the building. We have some parents dropping off their children in the lower parking lot or before they get in front of the school causing a back-up in the parking lot and onto the street. Please wait until you are past the crosswalk before having your child exit the vehicle. Additionally, if you need to get out of the car to help your child, please park in a parking space and walk your child to the school. As always, for the safety of our students, have your child exit on the passenger side of the car.
- If your child has an on-going illness or is quarantined, please let our office know and we will arrange to have your child in the CDL classes. Being quarantined or having an on-going illness are the only reasons students can attend CDL classes in the afternoon.
Finally, thank you for your flexibility and grace as we work to make our arrival and dismissal as smooth as possible. We have really enjoyed having your children in the building and know that there are concessions made on your part to make sure they arrive and leave safely as well.

Parent Input for 2021-2022 School Year
Our priority is to create harmonious and productive classrooms for next year. To create class groups, grade level teams use a number of data points about each student including: gender; reading, writing and math levels; learning characteristics; behavior/social characteristics; and more. Achieving balanced classes is a complex process. We are not able to honor individual teacher requests. Please submit responses by May 14, 2021
