Elm Street Elementary
Progress Report Newsletter, May 2017
Field Day is coming, Friday, May 5!
Grade levels are each wearing their own special color to build teamwork and help make the day run smoothly. Be sure to remember!
Kdg - White
1st - Red
2nd - Blue
3rd - Gray
4th - Tie Dye
5th - Yellow
We are keeping a close eye on the forecast. Right now it seems like a day that may need layers (or a change of clothes or shoes). Monday, May 8 is our most likely "rain out date" if a change of plans is suddenly needed.
Volunteers are still needed for the day's events. Please call Elm Street if you can lend a hand by working an event during part or all of Field Day!
Excited for the fun to begin!
End of Year Dates - Mark your calendars!

Summer Chromebook Opt In
Online Safety is important!
Our school chromebooks are equipped with GoGuardian in addition to firewalls and other restrictions to various forms of internet use on campus. However, even with these safeguards in place, it is still important to remind students of safe and effective use of electronic devices. Parents are encouraged to regularly supervise, monitor, and check the history of devices children are using. From cyberbullying to revealing unsafe personal information, it is critical that we all take an active role in safeguarding our children online.
Lieutenant Jamie Hixson with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office talks with fifth graders about online safety as part of the S.A.F.E. program each year at Elm Street. In addition, during her parent presentations at Elm Street over the years, she has regularly encouraged parents to know their children's passwords. It is not spying, it is safeguarding as a part of good parenting.
Here is a helpful link to Kids.gov a resource with some safety reminders, videos, and key questions to talk with your children about with regard to online safety.
Coming Soon - Rising Eagle Google Classrooms!
RISING EAGLE GOOGLE CLASSROOMS!
In preparation for the summer ahead, teachers are working to build a few helpful summer resources, including online summer learning links, as well as fun summer learning activities or project ideas into a new google classroom. Each grade level will have a Rising Eagle Google Classroom for their upcoming students. While students are certainly not required to take part in any activities shared in the classroom, they are invited to join in these opportunities for ongoing learning in fun ways. Our goal is to help prevent any "summer slide" in learning by engaging students in thinking moments from time to time throughout the summer. Stay tuned for more details!
