SOUTH LEBANON ELEMENTARY
5th Avenue Falcons October 2020
Notes From the Principal's Office
During the 2019-2020 school year, we kicked off a new program called S.O.A.R. For those of you that are new to our school, S.O.A.R. is a set of school wide expectations that are reviewed daily with our students. Last year we held monthly reward activities for students who consistently met our S.O.A.R expectations. With the restrictions placed upon us by Covid-19, these monthly rewards are not a viable option for this year. We feel as though we have found a way to more effectively recognize students. I am excited to announce the next step in our S.O.A.R. program called Wings of Praise.
Wings of Praise Highlights
- Students are recognized for positive behaviors
- Students who receive a Wings of Praise will be eligible for a drawing for a weekly, monthly, and quarterly reward.
- In partnership with Cedar Crest Middle School and Cedar Crest High School, we have gathered sponsorships from local businesses to provide financial support for our rewards.
- Wings of Praise winners will be announced on morning announcements and will be recognized on district Social Media.
- Business sponsors will also be recognized on social media.
We are excited about this community partnership and the way in which we will continue to be able to recognize student success. Thank you all for a wonderful start to the 2020-2021 school year!
South Lebanon PTP
Dear South Lebanon Families,
Welcome to the 2020 school year! There is no doubt that this year is going to look very different than past school years. Even with the challenges we're facing, the South Lebanon PTP will continue to support as many activities as we can throughout the year by working with the teachers and administrators and following the district guidelines.
In addition to activities for the students, the South Lebanon PTP supports the faculty and staff. We will be working to fulfill some of the additional needs of our teachers for the 2020-21 school year, as well as to come up with new and innovative ways to enhance our kids environment.
So how can you stay informed and involved during these unprecedented times? Come to our October PTP meeting on WEDNESDAY, October 14th at 6:30pm in the LGI. We request that all attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing. Unfortunately, there will be no childcare provided at this time. If you cannot attend in person, the meeting will also be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. See link below. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to get involved, please contact me, Angie Bensing at kabensing@verizon.net
Here's to another great year at South Lebanon!
Sincerely,
The South Lebanon PTP

Need to refile an application for free and reduced school meals …? Click on the “Lunch Menu” quick link icon on all CLSD websites (www.clsd.k12.pa.us) to find information and helpful links. Important Note: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, is the deadline for carry-over applications from the 2019-20 school year. All meals are currently free of charge for ALL students through December 23, 2020, or until the federal funding for the program runs out. Families that have applied for free or reduced lunch status for the 2020-21 school year will receive a letter indicating their lunch status by October 14, 2020. It is important that all families that may qualify for free and reduced priced meals apply as soon as possible to avoid delays when the federal program ends. After the funding ends, students who already have been approved for free meals will continue to receive free meals all year. If the District has not received a new application for free or reduced status by October 14, 2020, students will be charged full price for breakfast and lunch beginning the first day the District is no longer able to participate in the federal program (January 4, 2021, or earlier if federal funding runs out).

Inclement Weather Procedures & Skylert Notification System: The decision to close school or open two hours later will be announced before 7:00 AM on the CLSD Home page, www.clsd.k12.pa.us, as well as on the Cornwall-Lebanon School District Facebook and Twitter pages (@CLSD_Schools), and on local radio and TV stations. The Skylert automated notification system also will be used to contact parents/guardians during the school day in the event of a building power failure, hazardous situation, or an early dismissal. Please review the important information that is printed inside the front cover of the 2020-21 CLSD Calendar of Events. The District website is the first place important information is posted. Please, do not contact school or District offices in the case of these events as it is important for our phone lines to be available for emergency communications.
Remember, the Skylert notification system is only as accurate as the information you have provided to the District. Be sure your phone/email settings allow (do not Block) these three numbers: (717) 272-2031; (717) 389-1810; (717) 389-1836 and emails from @clsd.k12.pa.us addresses. Please review your information and make any updates in Skylert (for general information sharing, including school closings):
1. Login to your Skyward account.
2. Click the word “Skylert” in the left menu.
3. Fill-in and check or uncheck your desired settings. Be sure to select at least one email or phone number in each category.
4. Click “SAVE” in the upper right side of the page when you are done and BEFORE you click on Exit.
Note: If you need to change any “Emergency Contact” information, please contact your student’s school office.
United Way Campaign: Our district continues its dedicated support of the United Way this year. In addition to asking our staff for contributions, we are asking our students once again to consider donating to the Miles of Quarters Campaign. This campaign will be held in October. We encourage each student to consider a donation of one quarter for each year of their age. For example, an eight-year-old student would donate eight (8) quarters, or $2. United Way of Lebanon County is making a difference in the lives of families, children, veterans, and our neighbors most in need. One-hundred percent of your student’s contribution supports individuals and families right here in our county through programs focused on health, education, and financial stability, in addition to basic needs and safety net services.
Online Community Bulletin Board: Check the online Community Bulletin Board regularly for information about upcoming events, activities and fundraisers throughout the CLSD community (Click on the “COMMUNITY” tab on the District website: www.clsd.k12.pa.us, or Look under the “SERVICES” tab on any CLSD school page.) Currently, you can find out about sports activities for the participant and spectator … Scouting opportunities … Student club Fundraisers ... community events & activities ... and many more items of possible interest!
2020-2021 CLSD Calendar of Activities and Events: Calendar were distributed to all students families via U.S. Mail in early August. If you would like to have an additional one or did not receive a calendar in the mail, please request one at the District office or your child’s school office. Please not that if there are cancellations or optional online offerings, those will be noted on the Calendar on the CLSD Home page.
Volunteers and Chaperones: During this time of COVID-19 mitigation efforts, volunteers are not permitted in Cornwall-Lebanon School District buildings. However, this is a good time to apply for or update your clearances for the future when we will welcome our Volunteers back to the buildings once again. CLSD greatly appreciates the volunteers and chaperones who provide assistance to students and teachers through their participation in classroom support, as well as special events and activities. Volunteers are essential to the success of students. Anyone who will be serving as a long-term or short-term volunteer for the District must submit completed clearances to the School District prior to serving as a volunteer. Look under the “Community” tab on the District Home page for more details: http://www.clsd.k12.pa.us/.
CLSD Board of School Directors Meetings: Regular meetings and public work sessions are open to the public. Check the CLSD website under OUR DISTRICT-->School Board for information about meeting dates, participation guidelines and the link to register to attend a meeting.
