Principal Fountain's Message To Families

Dear Families,

We are getting so excited to get our JBE Crew back together and seeing everyone at one of the Fact & Fee sessions!!

Message from our JBE One President

Hello JBE families! Hope you're having a wonderful summer - I know I'm personally enjoying the slower mornings but am also excited about the return of routine that school brings! Your JBE ONE Exec Board has been working behind the scenes to help our staff and we're very excited about all that it is in store this year for our kiddos.

With a JBE Smile,

Katie D. Edwards

Uniforms

Hard to believe we are coming into the last few weeks of summer! Please find below some important information about school uniforms for 2022-2023 school year.

Although the window has closed to receive your uniforms by Fact and Fee on 8/15, we encourage all families to still order your uniforms NOW to have them during the first few weeks of school. All orders can be placed on JBEONE.org. The uniform policy for JBE can be found on the UNIFORM Homepage of the website.

*NOTE: For the 2022-2023 school year, there will be NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS accepted. We always offer exchanges of sizes. We will have our EXCHANGE Form available at Fact & Fee as well as a PDF online that can be sent in with any exchange requests.

*We have added a MAY DAY 2022 T-shirt as a PREORDER on this site. Please note that these are a special order t-shirt and will not be in stock items to order throughout the year, so get them now if you want one! These run exactly like our cotton uniform t-shirt, so please order accordingly. They are acceptable uniform shirts for FRIDAYS ONLY as well as the TIE DYE T-shirts.

Please email Sarah at uniforms@jbeone.org with any questions! Thank you for supporting the BEST little school in the Lowcountry, and have a great Summer!

Orton Gillingham

Did you know that the incredible anonymous donor has now given enough $ to train over EIGHTEEN TEACHERS at JBE in the Orton Gillingham approach?! That means that ALL of our Kindergarten Teachers, ALL of our 1st grade teachers, ALL FOUR of our reading interventionists have been/are currently being trained?! AND our Second Grade teachers are being trained as well using the ESSER Funds. WOW! This is INCREDIBLE! OG tutors cost between $75-$150/hour, and your kids are getting this FOR FREE just by attending JBE.

What is Orton Gillingham!? Simply put, it's a way to teach kids to read and write that compliments the current standards/programs in place. OG is a multi sensory approach to reading and writing, and the kids love it. The teachers are diagnostic and prescriptive, paying attention to what the needs of the students in his/her classroom. Consistently reviewing the previously taught skills allows for the students to practice until the skills are permanent. Lessons are tailored to meet the students’ needs. It’s an incredible approach for all students but works especially well for children with dyslexia. Our kids are BEYOND fortunate to have this in their classrooms.

Money that you give to JBE ONE helps support the ongoing training as needed. THANK YOU for supporting JBE ONE!

SIC Elections

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 1 at 7 pm for the JBE One “All Hands Meeting.” This is an important night for our school community. Not only will you be hearing about the work and vision of JBE One, you will get a chance to vote for a new member of the JBE SIC (School Improvement Council). The SIC is an advisory council to the principal and school on issues related to school improvement. I am happy to announce we have two candidates, Fran Hawk and Mihaela Coopersmith.

Fran Hawk

Masters Degree in Library and Information Science

Served as Librarian at several Charleston County schools

Served on the Charleston County School Board
Grandmother of 3 JBE students

Most Important Accomplishment:

JBE Volunteer of the Year!!

Mihaela Coopersmith

Children: Lucas (5th) and Amelia (1st) at JBE

Occupation: Manager at Raftelis

Community: Greenhouse volunteer at JBE, participated in JBE SIC calls all last year as public, Neighborhood Captain for JBE One

I would like to serve on the School Improvement Council, because I believe this is an important role to have in the success of our school. It will give me an opportunity to be more directly involved in what my children are learning, while also being able to help our school continue to grow and improve. I have been a JBE parent for 4 years now, and I want to ensure my children and all their friends continue to be well-educated, empathetic kind leaders in our community while attending JBE and beyond. I plan to represent the majority of the parents' voices to support students, staff, and teachers, as I want to ensure our school continues to be the "best little school in the Lowcountry."

You Must Register Your Returning Students

IMPORTANT CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS: Parents of current JBE students who will be returning in August need to register using their existing ParentPortal account to view the data on file for each student and update information as needed (including medical information, who has permission to sign your student out of school, and transportation). It is EXTREMELY important for each family to make sure their child's information is correct.

TO GET STARTED:

  • Access the Registration form by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal
    • Additional information on Parent Portal.
    • If you do not remember your credentials, you will need to select the "forgot username/password" link to have your credentials emailed to you. If you cannot access the recovery email, you will need to contact the school (843) 849-2805
    • All parents/guardians will use the PowerSchool parent portal to submit registration forms.
Once you are logged in to your PowerSchool parent account, follow the steps below:

  • Select the student you wish to review and update.
  • Select the Returning Student Registration (Upcoming Year) Icon/Link located in your PowerSchool parent account on the left navigation menu.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Click Begin Forms to begin verifying and updating information.
  • Parents will need to upload one current utility bill (water, electricity, or gas) which includes a service address (not the mailing address) in the parent/guardian's name.
  • Once you select SUBMIT, you cannot access the form again.

Parents of returning current students who have not moved only need to upload one Category II residency verification document.

Parents of magnet students or who have moved must provide three residency documents. Refer to the required documentation list for details.

New Picnic Tables

Fresh picnic table alert! Big thanks to parents Scott Toole and Meghan Rowland for putting together FIVE new picnic tables. Can’t wait to see some happy kiddos around these tables! They also freshened up the other existing tables. Thank you!

And thanks to you for supporting JBE ONE! Your donations to JBE ONE support the ongoing efforts to keep our school at its best!

Free & Reduced Lunch

One of the silver linings of COVID was that every single JBE student received free breakfast and lunch for the last two years thanks to the US Department of Agriculture. That phase has ended and beginning July 1st, families are urged to apply for the program. Families that complete the free and reduced meal application receive other benefits (discounts on Internet service fees, college application fees, SAT fees) and school funding is increased to ensure students receive the support they need. Please use the QR code below or visit www.lunchapplication.com for more information or to apply.
