Welcome Back!
Dear ECSD Families:
The first week of the 2020-2021 school year is off to a great start. Our virtual and in-person students did a wonderful job following all of the new protocols and making the adjustments to new learning situations.
All of us enjoyed seeing the back to school pictures that families sent to us. These pictures are now displayed on our Facebook page. So many smiling faces. We are all excited to reconnect with our students and families. For some of our students that connection will be done virtually and for others it will be in person but either way the connection to our outstanding teachers is what sets us apart and makes learning fun. There are many people to thank for getting us ready for this most unusual school year; our bus drivers, secretaries, teachers, noon aides, principals, central office staff, technology support, custodial staff and our parapros. It takes a team to make each school year happen and this year in particular our teams did an outstanding job.
I know that there will be many new experiences and memories to be made this year and we are pleased to be on our way. You never know what will happen or what new adventure is right around the corner.
Here is to an outstanding 2020-2021 school year.

SAINTS DAY a SUCCESS at SCMS!
On Thursday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28, St. Clair Middle held their annual Saints Days for students and parents. Parents all signed up for times via a Google Form, only allowing for 10 people to sign up during a 10 minutes block, which made the process smoother than ever, especially during this time of social distancing. Students turned in emergency cards, got their school photos taken and 6th-8th grade students received their books for the school year. 5th grade students and parents were also welcomed to the building for a similar process, as well as a 30-minute tour filled with presentations, Q/A sessions, learning how lunch works, a visit to the 5th grade Academy wing, and more! All in all, it was another successful Saints Day at SCMS!
STAFF OFFICIALLY REPORT
Teachers and staff at St. Clair Middle School were back at it, all together, on Tuesday, September 1. Although they all have been training, learning and preparing on new teaching methods since March, the teachers were all together, socially distant, learning about the Return to School Safe Plans. The teachers and staff also participated in several training sessions in Google Drive, Google Apps, Google Classroom, as well as multiple variations of teacher collaborations. All in all, the teachers were excited to be all back together as they are looking forward to finally being back with their students on September 8.
St. Clair Middle School Staff Spotlight
Elizabeth Draghiceanu
This week's ECSD Staff Spotlight highlights the heart of St. Clair Middle School, Mrs. Elizabeth Draghiceanu. Mrs. Draghiceanu is the building head secretary at SCMS. She has worked for the East China School District for more than 7 years and started as part-time office para-pro at SCMS. In past years, she has donated her time extensively to the East China School District in such capacities as the PTO President at Eddy Elementary, a PTO member at SCMS, an MAEAESP Secretary, participated on the ECSD Parent Teacher Committee, and has been an active member on the SCMS Back to School Safe Committee. The most rewarding part of her job is serving the students and parents as well as building the amazing relationships with everyone. When asked if there is anything she would like to say to the community, she stated, " I feel absolutely blessed each day to have the opportunity to care for and serve our students and parents/guardians of this amazing community. You deserve the best from all of us, and I am honored and humbled to be a part of your educational experience and your lives. I wish for you an amazing school year with unlimited potential in achieving your goals for the present and future." We thank Mrs. Elisabeth Draghiceanu for being such an amazing, hardworking, and dedicated member of our East China School District family!
