The annual District 47 Student Art Show reception will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Dole Mansion/Lakeside Arts Park, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake. The D47 open house is also Lakeside’s First Friday event, which is free and open to the public.
D47 families are encouraged to visit the Sage and Dole art galleries anytime between 5:30pm and 8pm to view more than 500 creative works from D47’s K-8 students. Those unable to attend the open house event may still view the art exhibit at Lakeside Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm. The D47 student art show will be on display through Friday, May 17th. Parking is available at Lakeside. If lot is full, overflow parking will be available at South Elementary, 601 Golf Road.

PLANT SALE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are looking for volunteers to help during our upcoming Plant Sale May 8-10. Volunteers will assist students who are purchasing flowers at the sale. They will also help those who are picking up pre-ordered items. Please click on the link below to sign up to help!
Teacher Appreciation Week
We will be celebrating our fabulous West staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 13-17, with the theme "Nacho Average Teacher." Please sign up to contribute items to the Nacho Bar on Tuesday the 14th and the Taco Truck Lunch on Friday the 17th. Please also sign up to volunteer at the lunch on Friday. If you prefer to donate cash or gift cards (please Jewel or Costco only) rather than items, please drop off in the office in an envelope labeled "Teacher Appreciation Week" by Wednesday, May 8th. Thank you so much!
MAP Testing
During the month of May, your child will take an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). The district administers MAP assessments to help determine students’ instructional levels and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year to year in the areas of reading and math.
About MAP:
MAP assessments are computerized tests that uniquely adapt to a student’s level of learning. Questions increase in difficulty when they are answered correctly and decrease in difficulty when they are answered incorrectly. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. MAP assessments are fairly short, using minimal class time while still providing detailed, accurate information about a student’s growth. During this testing window, your child will spend a total of about two hours completing the assessments.
Kindergarten students will take the MAP assessment for the first time this spring. You will receive a copy of the report showing your child’s results the last week of school.
MAP assessments celebrate students’ individual growth and achievement. By partnering in learning, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our students.
If you have any questions, please contact your school principal. For more information about MAP, including resources for parents, visit the District 47 website at https://www.d47.org/map.
