Principal Update
Hello Grizzlies,
This was supposed to be a week to celebrate with the start of the school year. Unfortunately, tragedy has struck our community as the Almeda Fire has radically transformed our valley. I know that all of us have been affected by this to varying degrees. Some of us have lost internet and power, some are temporarily displaced and some of us have lost our homes. Right now, the greatest resource we have is one another as we pull together to offer support, shelter, food and clothing to those that have lost everything.
As someone who is new to our community it has been inspiring to see the degree to which people want to reach out and help one another. I have never been a part of a community that is so willing to organize and support one another. I know it will take time for us to turn the corner and begin to heal, but I know that we will do it together.
As of right now, school is not scheduled to resume until Wednesday, September 16. Many of our students and staff live in Phoenix and Talent and need time to reorganize their lives. Many students and staff that live in Ashland have been dealing with internet outages. Given that we are in distance learning, we are totally reliant on reliable internet service to our students in order to make school happen. Ashland School District continues to work closely with the city of Ashland and local utilities to monitor when services will be restored and thus when school can resume.
To our students and staff that have been evacuated or have lost homes, know that we are all thinking of you. If you haven’t heard directly from someone at the school yet, you will next week. We are putting together a list of resources that we can connect to those in need.
We are pulling together and we will get through this!
Sincerely,
Ben Bell
Principal
