Lanelle Hilling is currently the librarian at Marshall Middle School, in Fauquier County, a position she has held for past ten years. Previous to Marshall, Lanelle was the librarian at P. B. Smith Elementary in Fauquier, an Adult Reference Librarian in the Prince William Public Library System and a Graduate Library Professional at the Catholic University of America where she pursued a Masters in Library and Information Science shortly after finishing her undergraduate degree. In addition to working with her adored middle students, Lanelle enjoys crafting and presenting professional development workshops and conference sessions on the integration of technology into the library classroom, as well as the use of technology to promote school library programs to the public.
Lanelle earned Fauquier County’s Rising Tide Award in 2015 and was Marshall’s nominee for Teacher of the year in 2016. She serves on her school leadership and PBIS teams where she uses her coding and data analysis skills to help build a strong and safe school for all students. She has contributed several How to Hack your Library columns to the VAASL Voice and served as the VAASL Social Media Chair in 2015. Outside of the school library, you will find Lanelle glued to her Kindle while working out, listening to audiobooks while gardening and smiling while relaxing with family and friends.
