Maltby Messenger
October 24th Edition
~A message from the Principal~
A Message From The Principal~
It has been amazing to see many of you at conferences this week. The fact that you made the time to come to your child’s school sends a powerful message about the importance you place on education and the things children learn while at Maltby. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to sit down and talk more in depth with you about your child. Thank-you for your commitment and support of your children. We love to partner with our community.
As we move into the cooler months, please encourage your children to dress for the weather. We do go outside and enjoy our recess time outside. Also, if you could put your name on your child’s coats, we can make sure they are returned if they are left outside. We have many coats that are not identified or claimed each quarter.
Please remember if you are waiting for a student in car pick up, you turn your car off. We are a no idle zone, which means our cars need to be off while waiting. The classrooms on that side of the school take in the exhaust through the HVAC system and it can be overpowering. We appreciate your help with this.
Is our information in the office up to date? Please let us know if you have changed phone numbers, emergency contact numbers or street addresses. We want to be able to contact you.
Fall Ball is tomorrow! Come and enjoy a family festive event! Next week we kick off the Boosterthon. This is an all school event to help raise money for classrooms. Students are invited to have family and friends pledge money on line. The goal is $10,000. Our assembly for this event will be October 28th , the hour prior to dismissal.
Sincerely,
Bonnie McKerney
NEXT WEEK IS AN 'A' SPECIALIST WEEK
Idle Free Schools
Maltby Elementary has instituted a vehicle idling policy at the school. All persons operating vehicles at the school should adhere to the following guidelines:
- When waiting for students to be picked up, all engines should be shut off.
- All drivers should turn off engines when they arrive at school and when they expect to be parked for more than 10 seconds.
- If idling is necessary for temperature control, please restrict it to no more than 5 minutes.
We are implementing this policy to reduce the students' exposure to air toxins emitted in the exhaust of idling vehicles.
We encourage you to eliminate unnecessary idling not only at our school but anywhere you are waiting for more than 10 seconds. This simple change will improve the air our children breathe, as well as the air quality in our neighborhoods.
Thank you for your support...TURN YOUR KEY, BE IDLE FREE!!
PE Class Schedule
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences continue through tomorrow. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 PM. If the early dismissal time will cause your child's after school arrangements to change, please call the school prior to 11 AM or send a note with your student. All children will eat lunch during the school day, so please provide a sack lunch or lunch money for your students. Please call the office if you have any questions. Thank you!
Fall Ball
Come one, Come all...Don't miss the Ball. Join us for a night of dancing, costumes, treats and fun. This is a family event held at Maltby Elementary in the gym. Pizza, drinks, snacks and candy will be available for purchase. Entrance fee is $2 at the door or bring your Mustang card if you prepaid for PTO events.
Fun Run Fundraiser
10/28
Parents and Families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 28th. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Fun Run, which will happen on November 7th. This year our goal is to raise $10,000 for Classroom Improvements, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward Classroom Improvements and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Fun Run. Thanks so much for your support!
Halloween Happenings
10/31
Halloween is right around the corner and while we do want our students to enjoy themselves, there are a few guidelines when sending them in costumes:- Avoid scary costumes, toy weapons or things that resemble a weapon.
- Be sure costume allows child to see fully/move comfortably not only at school but on the bus as well; NO masks will be allowed.
- Please don't send child in delicate or expensive costumes as they play hard and can possibly be ruined.
- For younger students, please make sure they can button/unbutton the costume (without help) for bathroom visits.
Please check with your individual teachers and their newsletters for classroom events that may be occurring on October 31st. Many classrooms are having Halloween/Harvest parties, so if you are contributing food items to a celebration, remember food prepared by a commercial source (store-bought items) is preferred. Any candy should be individually wrapped. Thanks in advance for all your cooperation and support!!
