UPCOMING PARENT/ TEACHER CONFERENCES
Trimester 1 ends on Friday, November 20th. All students will receive Progress Notices prior to Monday, December 7th.
For the 2020-21 school year, parent/teacher Zoom conferences will be held at the elementary school level on Monday, December 7th. Please note this will be a non-student day and the only day available for conferences this year. The constraints of SB 98 have resulted in significantly less time for elementary teachers to prepare for and conduct conferences. Therefore, teachers shall offer and hold parent/teacher conferences for those students most in need, based upon student work, classroom observation, and assessments such as iReady, Lexia, Running Records, and MASI-R Oral Fluency. Identified students, approximately 7 to 9 per class, will be candidates for a parent/teacher conference.
Your child’s teacher will reach out by December 1st to schedule if a conference is warranted. If a student does not require a conference, their teacher will provide brief written comments on the progress report.
After reviewing your child’s progress notice, if you have special concerns, please reach out via email directly to their teacher.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.
Counselor's Corner: Gratitude
Cultivating gratitude is a factor in lifetime happiness. It’s about our perspective and what we focus on in our lives. Research shows that people who keep a daily or weekly gratitude journal have fewer physical symptoms, feel better about their lives in general and make progress towards important goals (whether academic, interpersonal or health based).
Daily gratitude exercises with young adults reported higher levels of positive states of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, attentiveness and energy compared to others. These people also reported that they helped another with a personal problem and feel a greater sense of connectedness to others. I came across this poem on gratitude and thought it would be appropriate as we go into the month of November.
Gratitude
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion into clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
~ Melody Beattie
Give your children the example of gratitude. They will live happier lives.
If you have a few more minutes (12 minutes) listen to The Gratitude Tree, possibly with your child.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64QzBuhsyuk
Count your blessings now and always.

Golden Envelope Pledge Drive - Update
Thank you to everyone that had donated during our Golden Envelope Pledge Drive. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated!
The pledge drive currently raised $56,140, which is approximately 30% of our goal of $183,000. The amount raised directly affects programs, such as science, art, music and technology, that we can provide for our school.
Donations are always accepted online and the opportunity to earn a penguin mask will return some time during the school year!
Please visit us online, www.parkvillagefoundation.com/pledge-drive to make your donation.

Celebrate with a “Birthday Book” Donation to the Library
The school library’s Birthday Book donation program is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday (or another milestone occasion) by choosing a book for the library's collection. Your gift will benefit PVES students for years to come!
After the donated book arrives at the library, a special bookplate with your child's name and birthday age will be placed inside the front cover. I will also reserve the book so your child can be the first student to check it out from the library (unless they choose not to).
This program is completely optional, but new books are greatly appreciated by the students, teachers, and me! Thank you very much! -- Mrs. Fleming, Librarian
How the Birthday Book Club works:
1) Choose a book from the Park Village ES Library Wish List on Amazon any time. There are a wide variety of preselected books to choose from. You can ship the books directly to the library.
2) Complete the Birthday Book Donation form online so I know what to expect.
3) When the book is ready for check-out, your child can be the first one to borrow it.
After the book is returned, it becomes part of the library collection for other students to enjoy.
Thank you for supporting reading and learning at Park Village!

No Place For Hate
We are excited to share with you that Park Village was officially designated as a No Place For Hate school again this year! This past week teachers kicked off this valuable program with students. As a reminder, The “No Place For Hate” program was created by the national Anti Defamation League (ADL) organization and was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Each year we will start by having all staff and students take the No Place For Hate Pledge seen here.
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone -even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place For Hate.
I PROMISE to abide by and uphold the No Place For Hate Pledge.
We will also be implementing three school wide activities throughout the year. The goal of these activities are to continue to find ways of building a more inclusive and respectful campus and to empower students to take a stand against hate and bullying. In addition to school wide activities, we have created a “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” for parents and students to access throughout the year. We hope students and parents will explore these resources together to have discussions around the topics of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Click here to access the “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” If you want to learn more about the No Place for Hate program in San Diego visit. https://sandiego.adl.org/no-place-for-hate. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Your “No Place For Hate” Team Members
