September 14th, 2018. We're glad you're here!
FMS Counseling: Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Horstmeier & Ms. Jo
Needing to see the counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chromebooks by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent today (Friday) from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.

We are so excited to see you all in the band program this year! There are going to be so many exciting things!
6th Grade Band:
Wow! These first few days of 6th grade band with instruments has been really exciting and I think the students would agree that we have a lot to learn.
This upcoming week in band we are going to working on #1-10 in the book. Students should be able to recognize their notes, as well as play them!
The points for band olympics will be added after our first playing assessment. Please make sure your students are practicing. The prize for the winning team will be something that they do not want to miss!
If your student ordered a book through the school, they are in and they cost $10.99. These can be paid for with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to FULTON MIDDLE SCHOOL. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Also, if your student needs any reeds, valve oil, slide grease or any other accessory for your instrument, you can always buy these through the school as well!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Throughout the year I will post things on google classroom as well as through email. Please check your emails frequently.
7th Grade Band:
7th Grade Band is doing so well already!
Band Olympic points were added up yesterday and are on google classroom. The students that earn the most points will have a special prize at the end of each quarter. Keep practicing kiddos!
We have started our new book, and if you would like to buy one for your child that they can keep at home that is more than welcome. Please let me know if you would like to go that route, and I will get one ordered. You can then pay the school as soon as they come in.
The 7th grade band will be playing at a Veteran's Day assembly at the middle school and we just received that sheet music to start sight reading today. Please encourage them to be practicing at home.
8th Grade Band:
8th Grade Band is off to a strong start. We are doing a lot of review, and the students are responding very well.
In the next week ,we will be learning about chromaticism and reviewing vocabulary words from last year. We are looking at our sheet music for homecoming over the next few weeks as well, and getting music for the Star Spangled Banner and Fulton Boy. This music will be performed at the homecoming parade as well as the football game. More information will be sent home regarding this event in the next couple of weeks. Information can also be found on google classroom as well as email and the newsletter every week.

News from the Art Room
This week we are moving into new projects for most classes. Students are doing fantastic thus far.
6th Grade:
We are in the beginning stages for our next project “torn paper animals” Where we will be learning to see shapes and forms in our drawing, and applying it. Students will draw a simplistic profile view of their favorite animal, and begin developing a low relief interpretation of their choice. This project will take many weeks to fully conceptualize, and materialize, but students really love the final results.
This project is ELO2 Students will use subject matter and themes in artwork, and fulfills the Missouri Standards FA1 Create an in the round artwork by joining two or more surfaces using layering material. FA2 Identify and use complex shape such as people, animals, or vehicles.
7th Grade: We are starting our Elements and Principles of Art section where students will be creating mini posters of the element or principle. Students will work with partners and learn about the Principles and Elements.
Objective: ELO 3: Students will analyze and evaluate art
Key Terms: Elements: Line, Form, Shape, Color, Value, Texture, Space. Principles: Balance, Emphasis, Contrast, , Rhythm
FA3 Describe the Elements and Principles of Art
8th Grade: We are moving into our second lesson.
Objective: ELO 4: Students will explain the connections between art and the world around them
Lesson 2: American Gothic Reimagined
Students will create a parody of Grant Wood's "American Gothic". Students will work to recreate the portrait with their own modernized ideas. This will be a portrait study with three required subjects in the artwork. This is always a fun project, which allows students creative freedom.
I will be making announcements for those who made the FMS Art Club towards the end of the week. Our first Meeting will be Sept 21st, as long as we don't need an extension. I will keep everyone posted as we move closer..
Thanks for the support, and as always if you have any questions or concerns, please email me cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours,
Mr. Chapman
