Principal's Message

It is hard to believe that we are preparing to celebrate another holiday season. This is a special time of year at Lewisville Elementary. The students are excited about the approaching holiday. The atmosphere is absolutely magical. Let us remember our military servicemen and servicewomen as they continue to serve their country, especially during this time of year. In the event of inclement weather, official school closings will be announced on WSJS, WXII, and WGHP-TV, Cable Channel 2, and a notice will be posted on the school system website - www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us. Notices will also be sent out via phone and text, so please make sure that your number is updated with our office.
COOL CAT BIRTHDAY BASH...THE COOL WAY TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS AT L.E.S.
To promote healthy lifestyles, equity among our student body and prevent the loss of instructional time we will set aside one day per month to celebrate the student/staff birthdays for that month. This special event will be called the “Cool Cat Birthday Bash”. Along with the PTA, the school will provide a birthday treat to all students and staff to celebrate their special day. Beginning August 26th, parents and guardians will be prohibited from bringing special treats for the entire class to school to celebrate students' birthdays or from bringing surprise parties for students/teachers. Our school elected to implement the “Cool Cat Birthday Bash Day” after much thought and discussion.
The compelling reasons for this decision are:
- Our district wellness policy encourages staff members to teach children to make healthy eating choices. Celebrating birthdays one time per month instead of multiple times decreases the amount of high caloric treats provided to students during the school day/month.
- The number of students with food allergies increases each year. Our teachers are extremely careful to ensure our students are not exposed to harmful food agents. The safety of our students is our top priority. Students with food allergies are taught to be cautious of any foods not prepared at school or approved by their parents. It is stressful for these students to guess if the treat being provided contains an allergen and if is safe to consume. Some students elect to forgo the treat and feel neglected/left out due to circumstances beyond their control.
- Equity: All parents are not able to provide their children and classmates with special treats due to financial hardships.
- Loss of instructional time: When parents/guardians unexpectedly bring treats to class/cafeteria and ask for just a few minutes, it interrupts the instructional day. Passing out treats, cleaning ups spills, etc. is time consuming and puts the teacher behind in his/her instructional plans. Lunch schedules can also be delayed due to treats being passed out in the cafeteria.
BIRTHDAY/ PARTY INVITATIONS REMINDER: Party invitations should not be sent to school for distribution unless the ENTIRE class is being invited to the party. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please do not place your child’s teacher in an awkward situation by asking them to pass them out for you.
Mrs. Falor would like to extend a HUGE "thank you" to everyone who supported our library with the Book Fair!
Car Rider Safety
This is an important safety message for all parents and grandparents who utilize the morning and afternoon car rider line. In the past few weeks we have noticed an increase in parents/guardians who are not following our car line procedures. In the mornings, we request all parents/guardians refrain from pulling out in the line after their child has exited the car. Pulling into the extra lane creates a hazard for students crossing the parking lot and other vehicles who are exiting the parking lot.
In the afternoon, we have observed the same situation. Mr. Ploof directs our car lines and motions for the lines to move forward once all students have been safely placed in their cars. Cars should not attempt to change lanes or pull away if they are first in line. This procedure is in place for the safety of our students.
Parents we are asking that you share this information with anyone that picks ups or drops off students for you. Once again, thank you for helping ensure the safety of our students.
Cold and Flu Season...
If your child does become ill, please do not return them to school until they have been fever free (100.4 or less) for at least 24 hours and/or they have not vomited for at least 24 hours.
We truly appreciate your help in keeping everyone healthy and in school!
CAN DO RECYCLING
Support Lewisville Elementary. Drop off aluminum cans at the CAN-DO trailer located in the LES parking lot on Lewisville-Clemmons Road. Money collected from recycling cans helps support our school!
Recycling, we CAN make a difference!
A special THANK YOU to all of our volunteers that helped with our Book Fair and Grandparent's Day...we couldn't do it without you!
Lewisville Elementary's Food Pantry
We thank her for her dedication to this cause, and we thank all of you for your donations!
Thursday, December 5th we will have our 2nd General Meeting for the school year. Please plan to attend. We will look at making some changes to the current budget and need PTA members’ input. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 so that we may make way for the exciting 3rd grade performance.
Although Thanksgiving has past, PTA would like to thank you for all your support over the last few months. You have contributed to so many activities and events. We are truly thankful! Veterans’ Day, Grandparents’ Day and the Book Fair were a wonderful success because of families like you!
PTA would like to thank our classroom T-shirt sponsors. These local businesses and families helped to provide each student with a class T-shirt that can be worn on field trips and school activities. The LES Vogler Family, Southern Dental Associates, Pella Windows, Fostering Minds and Mind & Body Connection, State Farm & Brett Lindquist, and Yadkin Vision Center
This time of year is seen as a time of giving. Each year our PTA sponsors an event we find fun for all the students. The Holiday workshop is right around the corner and we’re looking forward to seeing your child there!
The workshop will be held Wednesday, December 18th with a makeup day (for those students who may be absent on Wed.) on Thursday, December 19th. Your child will visit the workshop with their class. Parents are asked to please let their child come with their class; let the gifts they purchase be a surprise for you! Items are very reasonably priced - $0.50, $1.00, $2.00. Each child can purchase up to 4 items, so they need no more than $8.00. We can only take cash for their purchases. We will handle the wrapping for them, and they’ll come home with gifts they chose ready to place under your tree or other holiday decorations. This is a great opportunity for them to learn that giving gifts is just as much fun as receiving them!
Thank you for your valuable time and support! Have a safe and happy holiday season! This is NOT a PTA fundraiser, simply a fun and exciting time for the children to be able to ‘GIVE’ during the holiday season.
More information will be available trough your teacher’s weekly emails, Peach Jar and our PTA social media accounts.
