MPE Weekly Roar
November 17, 2023
Good afternoon MPE Families,
We had another wonderful week at MPE!
- Thank you to the PTA for bringing the Ajna Dance Company to teach us about Diwali and perform for the students and staff.
- Our Student Council Pajama Drive has begun. Please consider donating new pajamas in sizes newborn to adult. Kindly send to school with your child no later than Monday, December 4. Donations will be distributed to a local Essex County school in need. In addition, for every pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate a brand-new book to Pajama Program to give to a child facing adversity!
- An information sheet about the 3rd Annual MPE Spelling Bee was sent home this week with all students! Spelling words for each grade level are printed on the reverse side of the information sheet. The school-wide written spelling test will take place on December 4, 2023 during the school day. Please check your student's backpacks for the information sheet and spelling words.
- Don't forget to purchase your tickets to the Wizards Basketball Game on December 2, 2023. Please review the PTA blast for details.
Have a great weekend!
Proud 2B MPE,
Become an MPE Ambassador
Have you found your parent community at MPE? Do you have a friend to chat with at pickup or school events? Please consider yourself lucky and consider becoming an MPE Ambassador.
Ambassador Programs help further a sense of belonging and community. They also present an opportunity to demonstrate to our children how to build relationships beyond our original friend circles and create a framework to find our place in our community. By wearing an MPE Ambassador Pin (magnetic back, does not pierce clothing) you signify to other parents that you are simply open to a hello or casual conversation. No pressure to become BFFs or to wear your pin every day, only when you are open to a wave, a smile or a little chat. Click here to sign up or just to get more info you're on the fence! There will be an information session via Zoom to answer any questions and provide tips.
Clapping out and spelling sight words helps us learn them.
Grade 2 Math
Scarecrow Self Portraits are made by kindergarten , reviewing the use of shape to create a unique fall scarecrow that resembles themselves.
Second Grade created the Line Leaf artworks, highlighting the use of line and contrast to make a fun fall leaf.
Third Grade collaged warm colored fall trees using a variety of organic shapes and lines.
Fifth Grade learned about the iconic animators and movie producers, Tim Burton and Henry Selick, to create a creepy self portrait inspired by the artist's styles.
During the month of November, MPE will be focusing on the pillar of Citizenship. Good citizens do their share to help their communities by being kind neighbors, obeying laws/rules, protecting the environment, and respecting authority. Good citizens show sportsmanship and take responsibility for their actions and words. Students at MPE will participate in lessons on citizenship and participate in a pajama drive later. The MPE students and staff work hard each day to find the spirit and determination to be the best we can, knowing that in doing so, we benefit the whole of our communities.
To celebrate our pillar of the month, Citizenship, we will be dressing in PURPLE on November 7, 2023!

MPE Cultural Celebrations Committee
Did you know that there are nearly 60 countries and cultures represented in the MPE Community?
At MPE, we want to celebrate what makes us different! Please join us as we help our children explore the world and all of the cultures at MPE! The Cultural Celebrations Committee facilitates several exciting celebrations observing various global cultures & traditions represented at MPE. This is made possible with help from amazing parent volunteers & presenters who run the show. The presenters deliver a short lesson followed by a hands-on experience (craft, game, dance, etc). It's imperative that parents lead by example through engaging in presentations of various cultures, not just their own. The presentations and activities are pre-created, reviewed and approved by the cultural celebrations committee and its volunteers in partnership with the school administration.
This year is being kicked off by celebrating Hispanic Heritage in honor of National Hispanic Heritage month celebrated annually between Sep and Oct. We believe that recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States can be celebrated all year around.
If you are interested in presenting and engaging students with an activity, please email the MPE PTA. All are welcome to join.
November is also Native American Heritage Month. Be sure to see the posters of influential Native Americans displayed around the building.
Teachers were given Diwali slideshows to share with students during Morning Meetings.
If you would like to join the Cultural Celebrations Committee or have questions/suggestions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
