Happy October! Now if the weather just realizes it is fall, all will be well!!
Thank you to everyone that came to our Family Literacy Night. We all had a great time and the kids enjoyed it, too. We all appreciated the great turnout and we hope you got some information you found useful. If not, we hope you enjoyed being at our school with us. If you ever have time to volunteer, we'd love to have you visit whenever you can. We have had people come to read a book, play at recess, or help a teacher. Our children love volunteers and they benefit from having significant adults pour their love into them.
A special thanks to First National Bank for cooking our yummy hotdogs, Pepsi for our bottled sparkly water, Frito Lay for our yummy chips, Child Nutrition for our delicious cookies, Miller Glass for donating a television, and Common Roots, Steak and Shake, Beautiful Rooms, Auld Family Dentistry, McAlester Public Library, and Heavenly Delights for donating prizes. Food and prizes always make an event more fun!
Community support is so essential to the success of a school. I have several friends that donate money and services to us, but they don't really like public attention. Some give and use the donation as a tax credit, some give because they used to live in McAlester and want to help their old schools succeed, and some give just because they know schools can always use help! Whatever the reason-thank you to anyone that supports our students! Don't forget to help your teacher with her Amazon Wishlist! The opportunity only last for a month. They have all been so excited to see an Amazon box with their name on it arrive. I'm not going to lie--I was super excited to get one, too! McAlester is full of people that want our children to succeed and have fun doing it! I speak for every administrator, teacher, and staff of McAlester Public Schools-thank you from the bottoms of our hearts!
We will be going on a field trip at the end of October. I hope everyone read the letter about behavior. We want every child to attend, but we do have to have some procedures concerning behavior. We believe that every child can make good choices and we want to help them do this. However, we cannot take children on a bus out of town that cannot make good behavior choices. As the letter states, each child will have several chances to show that they can and will be on their best behavior. Thank you for talking to your children about their choices and why it is important to make good ones. Between us all...it will make a difference. Your children are very special and very capable of being amazing! They are getting compliments daily. Thank you for your help! And remember..you are welcome to join us on those days, you just will need to pay at the pumpkin patch. Also, thank you to everyone that has contributed extra for children that might need help!
We hope everyone is finding time to help their children with their homework. There is always a lot of controversy over homework. If it is meaningful and helpful it does have purpose . What you are doing with your child daily at home is helpful. Find the meaning in the time you spend with your child. You are their most important teacher they will ever have...enjoy these little jewels. They are so sparkly and enthusiastic. They are hilarious and there is no better entertainment than being with them as much as possible. You are blessed to be their families and we are thankful you share them with us daily!
Also, thank you to everyone for your prayers and love you and your children have shown me. I took my first chemo on Monday and I am doing well. Hopefully, this will continue and I can be at school frequently. I will have to wear a mask and we have been talking to the children about germs and keeping everyone well. Please talk to them about coughing and sneezing into their shirts and washing their hands frequently. They have been so sweet and kind to me. I truly do love children, because they are the best of all of us. Thank you for raising such great kids...you should be proud of how special they are. I certainly am and I can feel all of those Buffalo prayers every night! Love you all,
Kathy Hunt
