AMHS Weekly Update

August 29 - September 2 , 2022

Student Pick-up and Drop-Off

Student parking and drop-off are near the gym entrance daily. We are asking parents to practice kiss and drop to ensure a smooth dropping-off and picking-up experience. As a reminder students can be dropped off as early as 7:05 am.

In the afternoon, car riders are released at the front entrance. The pick-up area is now one lane only. Parents can pull up to the front entrance side of the building the pick up their scholars at the end of each school day. We are asking parents to refrain from dropping off or picking up in the teacher's parking lot. This will alleviate instances of road rage during busy morning drop-off, accidents, and blocking teachers' parking spots in the afternoons. Students should be a pick-up in the afternoons by 4:30 pm unless they are participating in a sport or after-school activity.

Thank you for your support!

Cell Phone/Electronic Device Usage

Our focus at Arabia Mountain High School is to do whatever we can to create a learning environment where growth and learning can take place every period, every day. We also believe that learning happens in the context of relationships. In alignment with the DCSD Code of Conduct (p30), the use of electronic devices is prohibited between the hours of 8:00 am-3:20 pm. Students should only use their cell phones when given explicit permission by their teachers for instructional purposes. We are doing our best to ensure that we minimize the distractions that cell phones can cause to student learning. Parents, please speak to your student about cell phone usage during the school day. The origin of many discipline problems occurs as a result of cell phones, social media postings, and text messages. Inappropriate use of cell phones or other electronic devices may result in phones being confiscated. Parents can contact the front office to get a message to their students.

Parents CAN Connect to Canvas- Get access today!

Below is a tutorial link to help walk you through the process of gaining parental access. If the student pairing code is expired, your students can also create a pairing code for you. Please see the directions below to get the student access code from the Canvas student account below. 💡Once connected, parents are able to view their student's courses. This will help you to view your student's course material and help them to meet deadlines.

Content Tutorials

It is important that your student develops strong time management and study skills to help them be successful at Arabia Mountain High School. The development of these skills will help students to better manage classroom and homework assignments while at the same time helping them to perform better on assessments. It is imperative that students break larger projects or tasks into smaller pieces to help them manage them better. Encouraging your student to study daily, by reviewing class notes, completing practice problems, and previewing course content are a few ways to help them to gain a better understanding of the course content. It is encouraged that students spend time grappling with course material, as this is a significant part of their learning. Students are encouraged to write down questions so that they may ask them during class or tutorial sessions. Our content tutorials will begin the week of September 5th. The Core Content tutorial will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm -4:30 pm.

Mondays- Non-Core Content tutorials

Tuesdays- Math and English

Thursdays- Science and Social Studies

Please contact your child's teacher for more information. Parents will need to provide transportation for students who attend tutorials.
