Highlights of Our Week
Readers' Workshop:
- As readers, we learned more about Fact and Opinion. A fact is true and can be proven. An opinion is a feeling or belief that not everyone may feel the same way.
- We read and discussed our Journeys' selection entitled, The Dog Who Dug for Dinosaur Bones. As we read, we depicted facts and opinions in the story.
- Our read aloud this week as entitled, The Epperson Icicle. We learned that Frank Epperson unknowingly discovered how to make Popsicle. We made our own popsicles with Dixie cups, juice, and wooden sticks. We enjoyed eating our tasty treat on Friday...be sure to check out our photos below!
Writers' Workshop:
- During Writers' Workshop we researched information about a particular career in which we are interested. We read books and searched the internet to learn facts and details about our career interest. We began to write information about our career to make a brochure. Stay tuned for our finished products...
- During Grammar, we learned about Adverbs ~ specifically, adverbs that tell how and when.
Mathematicians:
- As mathematicians, we reviewed the math skills we learned this year and completed our end of the year assessment.
Science:
- We had presenters from the New Jersey Horticultural Society visit our class and talk about Pollination. We learned about the various parts of a plant and how seeds grow in the flower. Thank you, Mrs. Caruso for coordinating our visit.

This week of school was awesome! In reading we learned about frank epperson. He was the person that created the popsicle. He made it by accident he left his drink outsides in the freezing cold weather and it froze so he licked it and let all his friends about it. His friends loved it. First it was called the eppiscle then the popsicle now it is very popular.
Hello this is reporter RILEY speaking this week we had career share some people who came were Mrs. Burgoon (My mom) ,Mrs. Manskoft, Mr.Foley.
This is reporter Sara Foley and this week in 2mu we read a book called Epperson’s Icicle Epperson’s Icicle is about a kid named Frank Epperson. He invented the popsicle.Frank lived in San Francisco,California. He invented the popsicle by accident. Here is how it happened:One winter night more than 100 years ago Frank Epperson was using a stick to mix up a fruity drink by mixing fruity powder with water. Frank got distracted before ever taking a sip and he left the drink on his back porch. That same night, the temperature dropped and a big freeze hit the city.It was unusual for it to get that cold in San Francisco. When Frank woke up for breakfast the next morning, his hungry stomach growled like a bear. Before he ate,Frank remembered his drink on the porch. He had left it there without a guard.Frank found the drink on the porch where he had left it.Frank discovered it was frozen around the stick!Frank pulled it out of the cup by the stick. And then he licked it it tasted delicious!!!When Frank got older he sold them.First he called them epersicles then he called them POPSICLES!!They became very popular and now there all over the WORLD!To go with this story we made our own popsicles. You could make grape, orange,or apple popsicles.I chose orange. Then we got a stick and a cup and poured the juice in the cup and put the stick in the middle. After that Mrs.Murphy put them in the freezer. And Friday we got to ….EAT THEM!!!!! This week was so much fun!Reporter Sara Foley signing off!
