West Ada School District Update

September 18, 2020

Return to Work/School Note for Covid-19

If you, your child, or a household member is under the guidance of a health care provider for a COVID-19 related matter (this includes if you choose to get tested), please know that a note with a return to work, or return to school date, is required. A negative test result does not meet this requirement. If you are unable to obtain a note, Health Services/HR will request that you quarantine for 10-14 days depending on the onset date of your symptoms or exposure.

Plan for Bringing Grades 1-5 into School Every Day

On September 1, the Board of Trustees authorized Superintendent Ranells to gradually bring elementary school grade levels back in-person, full time during yellow operations. Since this recommendation, the superintendent and the district administration have been working on a plan to phase in grades one through five. The plan to phase in full time in-person learning for these grades is as follows:

September 28 - First and second grade
October 5 - Third grade
October 12 - Fourth grade
October 19 - Fifth grade

We are working through this process with principals and will continue to send out updates. If we are moved back into a red category during this process, we would move to full remote learning within 48 hours. Once we move to yellow again, we would pick up where the plan left off. We realize the importance of getting our students to full time in class learning and social distancing and wearing a mask play an important role in the success of this plan.

Air Quality Information

During this time of increased fire activity and the inversions that inevitably occur every fall and winter in the Treasure Valley, air quality is a concern shared by all West Ada patrons. To ensure the safety and security of all students and staff, West Ada School District will monitor air quality using the Real-Time Air Monitoring DEQ site to determine AQI for all West Ada Schools.

Based on readings from the website listed above, the District Service Center will communicate with all schools regarding red air alerts. If a red air alert is issued by the district, all schools will follow the Idaho DEQ and Health and Welfare Guidelines.

Parents and students will be notified by text and or email of game cancellations.
