Updates from Mrs. Froning
October 25, 2020
A Message from Mrs. Froning
As students settle into their "new" Path (My Path, Our Path or In-person learning) it is so important to me that we remain connected as a school community. All families (regardless of selected Path) will continue to receive my weekly Update newsletter and I will share a Google classroom code with My Path and Our Path students where I will posting morning announcements and other important Oakley Park news.
As I have told the students during many of my morning announcements over the past few weeks...families are making a Path decision that is best for their families at this time and we are ALL Oakley Park Owls no matter which Path has been chosen.
Commonly Asked Questions from the Parent meeting:
1. If my child is sent home as they are exhibiting COVID symptoms, how long do they have to stay home?
Student/Staff person within the school is symptomatic and pending a test result: ∙ Student/Staff excluded from school until:
o Proof of negative test result, person must be symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medications prior to returning to school.
If Student/Staff person chooses not to get tested:
o Excluded from school until 10 days have passed since symptom onset and at least 24 hours without fever reducing medicine OR doctors note with
alternative diagnosis and clearance to return to school.
2. If my child is absent due to quarantine or other illnesses, how will they make up their work? Can they rejoin Our Path?
All student absences for those who are returning for In Person learning will be handled as they have been in the past. Teachers will work with families/students to provide work during the absence and then provided the needed instruction when the student returns to school. Google classroom will certainly be a great tool for us all to use in this situation too!
3. When might we hear more about Prime Time Care?
It is our intent to open Prime Time Care during the week of November 9th. A tentative date opening date November 11th. We are unable to begin registration at this time due to the ongoing internet/server issues.
4. When will we receive information about Transportation?
Our Transportation Department is in the process of creating routes. Once routes have been finalize, information will be available in Family Access. (I will email when this information has been uploaded to Family Access.) Due to the short time period between now and November 4th, the Transportation will NOT be mailing post cards with routing information.
Chrombooks
We know that many of our families have checked out a Chromebook from the District for their child(ren). When students in K-5 return to in-person learning, we need to make sure that they have their device and charging cord with them every day. Children will still have some time throughout the day in their classroom where they may be accessing iReady work, submitting an assignment on Google Classroom or working collaboratively with others in their class via technology. We ask that parents keep the Chromebook charged and in their child(ren)’s backpack every day.
If you did not check out a District Chromebook, you are welcome to do the following:
∙ Send in your own device and cord each day with your child (must be a laptop or Chromebook device with a keyboard, video and headphone jack)
OR
∙ Check out a District Chromebook for your child that can be used for this purpose. Our IT Department will be available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Educational Services Center (ESC) at 850 Ladd Road Building D starting October 26th to October 30th. No appointment is necessary so please follow the signs at ESC to the Chromebook checkout.
It’s important that students have a device ready to go in the event that their classroom or school may go into a quarantine situation so we want everyone to be prepared should we need to shift back to remote learning temporarily. Buildings will not have access to large quantities of devices once our K-5 students return to in-person learning.
Synchronous vs. Asynchronous Learning
Live instruction via Zoom throughout the school day.
Asynchronous Learning:
Activities/assignments posted for students In Google Classroom. On Asynchronous days, students will go directly to their Google classroom to view their work for the day. *Note: the work assigned is NOT intended to take the entire day. Students should attend their regularly schedule FAPES classes which will also be Asynchronous. Students will find their FAPES assigned posted in the FAPES teachers Google classrooms. (Link are provided at the end of the this newsletter and classroom teachers will post in their Google classroom stream as well.)

Update on Internet Issues
We continue to work with federal authorities and cybersecurity investigators to unravel the internet breech. Unfortunately, we do not know what information has been accessed by the hackers. This recent Detroit Free Press article sums up the situation we find ourselves in to date. Although, internally, we are slowly bringing systems back up beginning with our Outlook email, and working toward returning Skyward access over the next few weeks. We will share more information as we receive it.
Owl Pick Up 2020-2021
We will plan to begin Owl Pick on Monday, November 9th. Car signs and student backpack numbers will be sent home during the week of Nov. 4th.
School Breakfast & Lunch
School breakfast and school lunch will be served FREE to all students that are attending in person learning in their classrooms daily.
You may pick up breakfast & lunch for Saturday, Sunday and all closed school days every Monday from 12:00PM – 1:30PM at each of our high schools.
For our virtual learners and children under the age of 18 who are not being served daily in our buildings, we will continue to provide 7 days of meals, through pickup at our high schools every Monday from 12:00PM – 1:30PM until further notice.
