A Note From the Principal-School Safety Information Meetings
Dear Parents,
Huffman received a surprise security inspection on Friday. I am very pleased to share that we scored a perfect score! I am so proud of our school for keeping our staff, students and parents safe!
Plano ISD is hosting three opportunities for parents to attend an informational meeting about school safety. District safety and security personnel, along with representatives from the Plano Police Department, will share information regarding security measures currently in place, projects scheduled for this summer and proposals that are being discussed for future implementation.
Presenters from the Plano Police Department include:
· Sergeant AD Paul, SRO Program Supervisor and Department Coordinator for the Crisis Intervention Team
· Lieutenant Sandra Rodgers-Tomeo, SRO Program Manager and Former Criminal Investigations Division Supervisor
· Lieutenant Mica Lunt, Plano PD Homeland Security and Training
Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions and suggestions via a comment card, with part of the evening being reserved for answering questions. The question cards will also be used to create a Frequently Asked Questions that will be shared on the Plano ISD website.

IB PYP Update
What do students learn in the PYP?
With the IB PYP, we are committed to structured inquiry as the vehicle for learning. Six transdisciplinary
themes provide the framework for exploration and construction of knowledge. Teachers and students are
guided by these transdisciplinary themes—as they design units of inquiry for exploration and study.
Through this process, students develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills
and knowledge, develop particular attitudes and learn to take socially responsible action.
What does “transdisciplinary” mean?
Transdisciplinary is the word that IB uses to describe a discipline that applies across all disciplines—it is
interconnected and can be applied across all subjects and applied to real life. A transdisciplinary
concept stretches across math, science, English language arts, social studies, the arts, personal, social,
physical education and ties it all together; it is not isolated to one subject. For example, the idea of change
affects math, science, ELA, social studies, the arts, personal, social, physical education—the IB PYP strives
to demonstrate this through learning, giving understanding to a real life world.
