Government Purposes
The Ebola-disease outbreak
President Obama is to announce plans on Tuesday to tell newspapers, etc. about sending 3,000 troops to Liberia to fight Ebola. Ebola is a potentially fatal disease that is spread by human contact with infected blood, blodily fluids and organs. Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea are the 3 worst hit countries. The outbreak has killed more than 2,400 people. More than half killed by Ebola were in Liberia. The WHO, World Health Organization, has warned people that thousands more cases could occur. The U.S. anti-Ebola intuitive is to do things such as train new healthcare workers each week, construct about 17 healthcare facilities (including 100 beds each), distribute healthcare kits, and also train everyday people how to deal with patients. I think this is a good example of the government providing social services. Think of how many lives this will save (or help), in the long run! Yes, my life would be affected with the government would not do anything like this. This is a deadly disease that could easily be spread to other countries, including my own. This is a step the government is trying to take to prevent this from spreading.
Arm and Train
On September 18, 2014, at 7:14 PM, news companies worldwide told the public that the U.S. Senate approved Barack Obama’s plan to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels to engage in battle with Islamic state militants. It also was a major part of his military campaign to “degrade and destroy” the radical group. The Senate voted 78-22, to show that they also supported him in the matter. And as the House of Representatives approved, it only came to Obama to sign into law. Ten state democrats and 12 republicans voted no. Although this is agreed and disagreed, I think that this is a good example of the government keeping national order. By doing something like this, the government is trying to find a dangerous (potentially very dangerous to us as well) group. The government is trying to put an end to this radical group before anything worse happens. Say the government were to let this situation go – the radicals could fit to have control of their area and we could eventually see another huge war. This would indeed, greatly, affect our country if the government were not to “stick their noses” in this.
