DESERT BIOME
By Alejandro Vieyra
Biology pre-ap p.8
little rain fall, high temperature, and are located in middle of Earth
herbivores- ostrich
carnivore- coyote
omnivore- lizard
detritovore- Earthworms
vascular plant- cactus
nonvascular plants- mushrooms
mutualistic relationship- ants and fungus
gymnosperm- gnetophytes
angiosperm- bryophytes
parasitic relationship- flea and coyote
comensalistic relationship- cactus and cactus
Populations include lizards, coyotes and rabbits
The carrying capacity is an enviroment's maximum population size of the species can do necessities available in enviroment
.The biome's climate is affected by the desert being hot and so a species needs to keep cool
.The geography affects it by making it close to the equator thus it's temperatue.
. What would happen if exponental growth occured in population id that it would make it harder for other species to compete for the same resources due to the limit and hotness causing death for other species
DEPENDENT FACTORS
weather
enviromental conditions
DENSITY FACTORS
predators
competition
Hardy Weinberg principle states that the allele and genotype will remain constant from generation to generation, in absence of other evolutuonary influences including mutations, gene flow, non-random mating, genetic drift and natural selection.
Part 2
Adaptions in plants in desert:
Stomata-to not lose a lot of water
Roots- Are bigger to absorb water from deep down due to harsh temperature and root hairs to protect itself from other things
Xylem- Is better than other plants outside of desert due to harsh temperature so it needs to transport this energy fast
Phloem- Reduced in size so that they reduced the surface area
Flowers- are camoflauged to suite the desert enviroment and protect itself
Cones- Reduce due to desert heat
Seeds- more durable to withstand the harsh desert landscape
Meristones- No major difference towards other plants outside of desert
TYPES OF PLANTS
Vascular- ferns
Nonvascular- phloem
Gymnosperm- ephedra
Angiosperm- cactus
Monocot- narrow leaf gayfeather
Dico- Bananna
Fruit- Coconut
All animals:
get food heterotrophic, are eukaryotic, quite an amount, sexually reproduce, adapted over heat and adapted over terrain due to color :)
