Moving Along with Mrs. Maddox
We are counting down the days until we see your children next week. We have waited five long months to be back together. We have all grown in fortitude and probably wisdom, our priorities are very different these days. I think God is smiling at how well we have taken care of one another.
This past week the Shawnee Mission School District announced they would be starting their year remotely. My heart sank for all the teachers, students, and parents who have been anxiously awaiting, just like us, to be together. This news was announced exactly one day after all principals of parochial and private schools in Johnson County had an excellent, informative meeting with the Johnson County Health Department.
The meeting with the Health Department was scheduled many weeks ago to insure once again, before we open our doors, that we have asked all the right questions, and that we are all doing everything we can to help minimize exposure and risk. The JoCo Health Department was very impressed with our questions, plans, and approach to opening our doors, as well as our dedication to getting our kids back to school. Their approval and input gave me a sense of calm and reinforced an already confident feeling of preparedness and preparation. Listed below are the 4 main recommendations given by the JoCo Health Department to help secure our building and protect our children, which we already had in place prior to the meeting.
1) Small cohorts of students and teachers
2) Teachers rotating, students staying with only their cohort
3) Social distancing among students and teachers
4) Mandatory masks
Along with many, many other safety regulations, procedures, and routines, these four items were the most important practices in their opinion. I think it is safe to say, we are as ready as we are going to be. Together with an attitude of gratitude, and commitment of solidarity, we are going to open St. Joseph Catholic School. Face-to-face for some kids, remotely for a few, but together in spirit.
As we move into the new school year, we will continue to follow the JoCo Health Department Gating Criteria. Daily, we will follow the data provided on their website, align it with their Gating Criteria, and use this information to drive decisions regarding our Gold, Navy, or Red schedule referenced on page 3 of our Opening Plan.
Lastly, I apologize to those of you unable to submit your Business Form. Thanks for your flexibility, your effort and tenacity, it did not go unnoticed. We will be prepared for your arrival despite the technical difficulties, we are eager to see all families, we are so blessed to be in this with you!
Stay safe Jaguars. Continue to pray, plan, and practice .... Cuz' we are going back to school very very soon!
With a Grateful Heart,
Jodie Maddox

K-8th Grade School Supplies
We know each of you are hard at work preparing and planning for our return to school. When purchasing supplies please do not worry about items you can not find like Lysol wipes, or paper towels. Below is a list of school supplies that should be brought in during Check In days according to grade level. Eventually all school supplies from the original supply list will be brought to school, right now we are minimizing how many items each child need to keep track of.

St. Joseph Pandemic Prayer
St. Joseph Pandemic Prayer for Healing and Guidance 2020-2021
Good and Gracious Lord, You have led us through difficult times before and continuously guide us with your wisdom and dignity. Be our navigator as we encompass new and frightening paths. There is much strife and anxiety when it comes to the unknown. Please continue to be our safeguard and our comfort. Help all of us discover, acknowledge, and honor your blessings during these times of uncertainty. Walk with us this school year. In Your name we pray, Amen.
