Here at NOLA Education, we are dedicated to our continued support during this distance learning journey we are all on. Please know that you can contact your Education Support Specialist (ESS) and/or Curriculum Support Specialist (CSS) for any help or support you may need moving forward. Also, please feel free to reach out to any of our other Star teachers for ideas or support with your distance learning plans. We are all in this together!
Star Shout Out
Robert Brown Middle School in Green County, Alabama has created a Hotline, set up through Google Voice, to let students and parents know that they are here for them. They've also created a newsletter packed full of information including distance learning resources, messages from the administration and teachers to their students, pictures, and embedded videos to let their students continue to feel supported in a time that can feel very lonely. Great job Robert Brown Middle School!!!

Our Awesome Krewe
Kayla Mason
Kayla is a math teacher at Selma High School Star Academy in Selma, AL. Due to the majority of students not having computers and/or internet access, Kayla's district is using the paper-based option. Kayla has created documents to send home with her students that include QR codes for those who have access to a cell phone. These QR codes provide information, videos, and practice for the students to master the standards.

Brianna Poole
Brianna is a social studies teacher at McIntyre Comprehensive Academy Star Academy in Montgomery, AL. Brianna utilizes Google Classroom to post activities from various websites: TeachTCi, NearPod, Flocabulary, ICivics, and BrainPop. Using these resources she is having her students complete various activities such as WebQuests, reading comprehension activities, etc. She is also keeping Project-Based Learning alive by having her students create PowerPoint presentations, brochures, etc. She is adding in weekly virtual lessons to help students who may be struggling with the activities.
Rachel Park
Rachel is an ELA teacher at McCormick High School Star Academy in McCormick, SC. Rachel teaches English 1, 2, and a Skills for English class. Her Skills for English class is getting a mixture of Language Live instruction as well as practice with reading/writing through free websites. Her favorite right now is ListenWise because students get to listen to a short text and respond to critical thinking questions, practice annotating, etc.
Brittany Brown
Brittany Brown has been an ELA teacher at George County Middle School for 10 years. She recently accepted a position at George County High School as their Graduation/Transition Coach. She's thrilled to be able to track Star students at the next level as they journey forward to graduation. Although she will be missed by many at the middle school level, especially within Star Academy, we wish her nothing but the best in her endeavors at the high school level. Good Luck Brittany!!!
