NURSE APPRECIATION!
CONGRATULATIONS, KARA KELLY!
Congratulations to Ms. Kara Kelly who was awarded the 2023 Gold Medal from Ascend Education. The Gold Medal Award was established in 2010 to honor the schools or districts that best demonstrate a dedication to ensuring that all students become successful at math.
The strategies employed by this year’s Gold Medal honorees made use of Ascend Math, an online individualized math instructional resource, to address unfinished learning, accelerate math learning and outpace growth targets. Congratulations Ms. Kelly!
CONGRATS TO OUR REFLECTIONS PARTICIPANTS
Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for over 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.
WCJH had three students that participated in the Visual Arts and Literature categories in the Middle School division.
Ayden Gordon – Visual Arts
Salma Suarez. – Visual Arts
Moriah Chavez – Literature
Congratulations to all our participants and thank you for your hard work!

YEARBOOKS HAVE ARRIVED: See Information Below For Pick Up Process
Our 2023 yearbooks have arrived! Publications staff are organizing all 1,000 of them for distribution as you read this! Yearbooks will be distributed during lunches on May 17th.
How Will You Pick Up Your Yearbook?
Students will receive yearbook pick-up tickets during advisory on Tuesday, May 16th.
Students must bring their pick-up tickets to lunch on Wednesday, May 17th, to pick up their yearbook.
- Do not lose your ticket. No Ticket; No Yearbook.
- No replacement tickets can be given.
- Receiving your yearbook will be delayed if you do not have your ticket.
The Pick-Up Ticket
- Indicates whether the yearbook purchased is personalized (red) or not personalized (green) This tells students which line to stand in to get their book.
- The ticket allows us to expedite the distribution process.
Our Goal is for all students who purchased a yearbook to receive it by Friday, May 19th.
- Publications staff will deliver them during Advisory.
- Students may not leave class to inquire or pick up yearbooks. We will get the book to them.
Lastly, if you would like to purchase a yearbook, visit Jostens. The site will accept orders
until we sell out. Ms. Blalock will answer question regarding yearbooks beginning
Monday, May 22nd after distribution of the 1,000 purchased yearbooks has ended.
Thank you for your PATIENCE as we deliver your 2023 memories!
REMINDER: Locker Clean Out This Week!!

FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE STUDY CAMP
Dear Class of 2026 and 2027 Parents/Guardians,
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for your 9th/10th grade student. This summer, we will be offering a study skills camp to prepare your student for the academic challenges of high school. This camp is designed to help students make a smooth transition from junior high to high school or perfect their skills from 9th to 10th grade. This summer camp is taught by respected educators of Tompkins High School.
Skills that will be covered in camp:
How to Study – Concentration and Memorization
This session is meant to be active and engaging. Students will have an opportunity to become aware of their own learning style and how they can cater to their learning needs. They will discover methods to enhance their concentration while reducing distractions. Students will walk away from this session realizing that good concentration can enhance memory and retention of knowledge.
Organization and Time Management
This session is aimed at helping students value their time. Students will learn how to set short- and long-term goals and discuss setting priorities for different tasks. In addition, they will learn how to schedule their study time for maximum efficiency while overcoming procrastination.
Note Taking and In-Class Skills
This session focuses on improving a student’s note taking and listening skills. Students will learn to identify important points in a teacher’s instruction and strategies for increasing the quality of their notes. Students will have an opportunity to practice these techniques and learn how to apply them in different classroom environments.
Test Taking Preparation and Strategies
The aim of this session is to help students prepare for and take exams. Students will learn why it’s important to identify the learning outcomes in their courses and how to predict possible test questions. They will also be taught basic test taking tips and specific strategies for answering different types of questions.
