Shelby Co. Area Technology Center
Our Purpose
A Note From Our Principal
Spring Testing
Late February begins an exciting time for our students at the Shelby County Area Technology Center. For 139 of our sophomores, juniors, and seniors that have met preparatory status (completed at least two courses in a pathway and enrolled in the third course in the same pathway) will begin taking the Kentucky Occupational Skills Standards Assessment (KOSSA) and industry certification test for their specific pathway.
Our students from Collins High School took their KOSSA on February 22-23 and our students from Shelby County, Spencer County, and Eminence will take the test on March 8-10. Many of our students have already earned industry certification in their specific pathway. For those that haven’t earned an industry certification, they will have the remainder of the Spring to get this accomplished. Earning a passing score on the KOSSA and/or obtaining an industry certification is an important step in reaching Career Readiness. We wish all of our students well during this exciting, albeit stressful time!
Thank you and Good Luck Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Karen Smith has taught in our Health Science program, specifically Health Science Informatics for almost two years. She recently accepted a position with Jefferson County Public Schools as a Specialist of Medicine, Health, and the Environment for Schools of Study and will assume this position at the beginning of March. Information Technology Students Update Shelby County Area Technology Center Web-Site
The Shelby County Area Technology Center’s website is getting a face-lift and the students of the Web Page class are in charge of those changes. Mrs. Ricchio’s Web Page class met with the district's Public Relations Director, Ryan Allan, to start the process of remaking the Technology Center’s web page. With Mr. Allen’s guidance, the students have been using SchoolPointe to update the school colors, work on the staff directory, and added to the front page a principal’s comments section.
The school colors have been officially changed to maroon and gray and the lay out also resembles the other school’s websites as well. The new website will include school events, updated news, and have an active calendar displaying upcoming events. Students are going through the back pages of the website and working on the staff directory profiles and links. This will give students and parents a centralized location to search for teacher information, course sequence, career options, along with their profile. There will be additional things added as the teachers dictates.

Alumni Spotlight
Jesse Bardis graduated from Shelby County High School and the Automotive Technology program at the Shelby County Area Technology Center in 2009. While there, Jesse was Kentucky State Champion, placing first in the Ford/AAA Automotive Competition. He later went on to place eleventh at the national Ford/AAA event. Due to his academic success, he was also a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
He received his Ford ASSET automotive associates degree from Great Oaks, a division of the University of Cincinnati. He updates this training twice a year through factory trained instructors from the Ford Motor Company.
Currently, Jesse is a Senior Master Technician with Earl Floyd Ford in Carrolton, KY. He had this to say about his time at the Shelby County ATC:
“The Shelby County ATC has prepared me for my career, by giving me the foundation to build upon. At an early age I had an interest in how cars worked. Learning the inside and out of an engine. Even learning how to do a simple brake job. Being able to go to school sparked my interest even more. Unlocking the hidden potential inside of me, to be great in the automotive industry. Even today I am still learning new theory as the auto industry is constantly changing. I can only thank the Shelby County ATC for giving me this head start to this wonderful career path.”
