Home Stretch

We have almost made it to Thanksgiving Break. Thank you for your diligence and hard work. This week will be fast and furious. Please make sure you take time over the Thanksgiving break to rest and NOT think about school. You have earned it.

The McKinney High School

We are the original, the beacon, the bridge between the past and the future for the city of McKinney.

Did you know...

McKinney High School received its charter for the National Honor Society on August 5, 1952. Nine members were inducted into the prestigious society. The charter remains in good standing, and qualified students are inducted each year based on leadership, scholarship, service and character.

Cell Phones

Much to the chagrin of some and delight of others, I have asked that students NOT have their cell phones out in class, unless it is related to instruction. The rationale is that most students cannot resist the temptation of doing more than listening to music. I want the academic environment to be as focused as possible. The focus on the little things such as dress code, tardies, and cell phones are worth the struggle.

Helping our Students in Need

Ms. Hamilton, our Communities in School liaison, has started a clothes closet to help our students in need. It occurred to me that some students may not be in dress code due to lack of appropriate options. If you have teenagers at home or have clothes of your own that you are willing to donate, please email Faithe at fhamilton@mckinneyisd.net.

MHS Students doing great things

  • Congratulations to Alex Pardis (Sophomore Cellist) and Sai Sai Ding (Freshmen Cellist) for being named All State in Orchestra.
  • Congratulations to Claire Embry (University of South Florida) and Abigail McFarlane (Carson Newman University) for signing letters of intent to play volleyball next year.
  • Congratulations to Jason Addington for winning the First Annual McKinney's Got Talent show on Friday with his amazing beat box skills.

Art needs your help!

The MHS sculpture class is beginning pottery soon and needs dry cleaning bags to keep the clay nice and moist. Please send your dry cleaning bags to C117, or let Ms. DeLeon know you have them for pick-up.

An new but familiar face.

Jenny Cope is coming back hone to MHS as my new secretary. Jenny was one of our registrars at MHS before moving on to Central Office. Jenny will be an asset to our team and will be transitioning back to MHS after the Thanksgiving Break.

Congrats!

Ms. Amanda Gorman, one of our wonderful English teachers, has been selected as the KLAK Teacher of the Month. Keep up the great work!
