Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 School Year!
Things to remember for March:
- Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) is in full swing! The theme this year is Jungle: Elephants, and Tigers, and Books, Oh My! At Chestnut Street, we're encouraging your child to get wild with reading! Take a picture of your child reading with a stuffed animal or a pet and Tweet it! Be sure to tag @WHChestnut and @WH_EPTA If you need help with Twitter, reach out to Mrs. Tripp!
- If your child will be absent, please call Nurse Angela before 9:00 AM at 516-390-3155.
- If there will be a change in your child's afternoon transportation, please write a note to the teacher. For last-minute changes, please call Mrs. Butler before 2:00 PM. 516-390-3150.
- Please be sure to send a new change of clothes for your child. They have grown a lot since September!
Questions to ask your child when they get home!
Ideas for Home
Egg Hunt: Just in time for spring! You'll need paper (cut into strips), markers, and plastic eggs you can open. Write a sight word on each of the paper strips and place one strip in each egg. Hide the eggs all around your backyard or living room. Have a fun egg hunt with your child. Record one point for each egg found and two points if your child can read the sight word. How many points did your child get? Play again and see if he or she can get more points the next time.

This month, we are celebrating Pick a Reading Partner! (PARP) Be sure to complete the weekly reading log and return it to school so that your child can earn a prize at the conclusion of PARP!
Your child will begin 'book shopping' in the classroom library! Please encourage your son or daughter to read and reread the books they have selected! Follow the teacher's guidelines for returning the books. Typically, the students keep the books for a week.
See the Reading Rockets Video series below to learn about ways to specifically target early literacy skills.
