LANCASTER BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUTS!
MESSAGE FROM YOUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM
Staff continue to work through class organizations for next year and are working diligently to provide learning opportunities for students, establish class connections and support students and families during remote learning. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher to provide feedback or seek out guidance about learning or wellness needs for your child. We are here to listen and work towards solutions with you. It has been great to see the students during class meetings and catch a glimpse of the learning happening in Google classrooms. Watch soon for opportunities to have students to engage in a supervised recess with grade mates and various activities with staff through Google meets!
STAFFING UPDATES:
We will be working through staffing for 2020-21 over the next few weeks. As part of this process we have news to share. Donna Jackson has been part of Lancaster since it opened almost 30 years ago and has been with the Limestone District School Board for over 50 years. A very full career and she has contributed to the board in many ways, including her role as President of union for CUPE members. Donna has announced her retirement at the end of August this year. We are so grateful for her time at Lancaster and know that she will enjoy the time with her family and triplet grandchildren! Lancaster welcomes Lillian Davies as our new office administrator in the September. Lillian comes with strong experiences in the board, most recently at Rideau Public School, and we are happy to have her join our Lancaster team.
We have also been very fortunate to have Carrie Moore join us this year as our vice-principal and SST. Carrie has brought with her tremendous knowledge around special education and quickly formed strong relationships with staff, students, and families. Ms. Moore will join the team at Napanee Secondary School in the fall as Vice-Principal. We are sad to see her go and wish her all the best in her new adventure. Lancaster will welcome Sara O'Hearn in this role in September. Ms. O'Hearn has many strengths, including a strong background in literacy as a lead learner and literacy coach in her previous school board. She has spent the last two years as Vice-Principal at Enterprise Public School with Limestone. Welcome Ms. O'Hearn!
END OF YEAR PLANNING
Thank you to our families for your participation in the LDSB Pulse Survey - the response was robust which helps to inform and fine tune our approaches as a district. While there is no further update from the Ministry about the end of year at this point, we do expect more information this week. Once we have clear direction we will be ready to put some of our planning in place for next steps as we end off the year. Our intent is to be prepared for all possibilities. See below a link for the Fly FM Grad day campaign, know that Lancaster staff are also in conversations about this special event for our grade 8 students. As always, please continue to follow LDSB on any or all of these platforms for the most up to date information:

L&A Kids Who Care
L&A Kids Who Care is for children of all ages. The goal is to inspire our youth and let them know that their actions, no matter how big or small, make a difference. It's a challenge to our youth to "give back" in a way that is meaningful to them and makes them feel proud.
We invite Lennox & Addington's youth to join this movement, to connect with and give back to our great community.
What it means to become a member:
Dedicate 5 hours a month to volunteer. You can spend it doing the same project or lots of different ideas. Make memories with your family and friends while giving back. Learn the different ways you can give back and how our community needs support. Kiddos will also learn that giving time is just as important as donating money.
Follow us on social media for local stories, inspiration and pictures of the wonderful L&A Kids Who Care in our community. Are you ready to join a wonderful group of kids to make our community and world a better place? Sign up to receive a monthly newsletter about local kids and information about future group opportunities.
Just a reminder to respect physical distancing and if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or other flu like symptoms please do not send out anything. There are lots of wonderful ways you can help from home too!
Ways to Give while Physically Distancing
From Home:
Kids, did you know that you can give back within the comfort of your own home? Do you love to make crafts, draw pictures, write stories, bake or build things? These are all ways that you can help those in the community around you. Be creative, we challenge you to
come up with new ways we can make a difference. Please be mindful of washing hands and not sending items if sick.
In Nature:
Helping our environment is a way to give back as well, while practicing physical distancing. Go on a nature walk and bring along a garbage back to help protect our earth and water, and clean the homes for our wildlife. You can also make feeders or shelters to make your yard more animal friendly. Be creative and help our world.
For our Furry Friends:
We have three wonderful organizations in our community who help animals. These would be great organizations to reach out to if you love wildlife and animals. Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, Napanee Community Kitten Rescue and L&A SPCA are primarily run by volunteers and are always looking for more help! Maybe you can even come up with an idea of helping animals in the wild, or animal shelters. Lots of options, just remember to be safe and to respect our wildlife.
VIRTUAL RUNNING CLUB - MEMBERSHIP OPEN TO ALL!
We had over 50 participants join our running classroom this week! Being part of a community that shares fitness goals can be motivating and help with our sense of team. New runners and families are welcome: CLASS CODE: j3eJs76. We have a Fitness Quote assignment posted in the classroom this week, show us what motivates you! We also continue this week with our Bingo Challenge complete as many lines as you can or keep moving by gathering kilometres as a family; walking, running, biking to keep our bodies moving.
Our goal is to complete a line, or more, of the Bingo challenge within the week. Last week students completed from 1 line to all 5! Students can submit their progress through the classroom by Sunday and we will celebrate our efforts together. Explanations of Cross Training, Power Exercises and Core Exercises are found in the classroom and give options that are accessible to all. See below the card for week # 2 that is also found in our Google Classroom.
Great work this week, keep it up Lions!
Your running coaches,
Ms. McDougall, Mr. Vreeken, and Ms. Fox
LOOKING FOR YARD SUPERVISORS FOR 2020-21
YARD SUPERVISORS
As we begin to plan for the next school year, we are looking for people who may be interested in being a Paid Yard Supervisor. Some of our supervisors come every day from 12:20-1:20, and others commit to a few times a week - the schedule can be flexible!
If you are interested, please email the school at lancd@limestone.on.ca
Are you MOVING?
Ontario Ministry of Education Learn at Home Resources
With the end of March Break, families may be looking for ways to establish learning routines at home when schools are closed. The Ontario Ministry of Education has provided some links to resources that families and students can access from home.
ACCESS TO WIFI
For individuals without access to the internet, the wifi is being left on, and enhanced where possible at Limestone D.S.B. schools. Students can log into wifi outside of any of LDSB school. A reminder that students and families must use physical distancing protocols and stay at least 2 meters away from others when using wifi around a school.
