Neurofibromatosis

A disease in which neurofibromas from throughout the body

Characteristics

Symstoms

Pain can be chronic

Skin: brown spot on skin, armpit freckles, or lumps

Whole body: balance disorder or high blood pressure

Developmental: learning disability or short stature

Sensory: hearing loss or pins and needles

Also common: attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, bone deformities, enlarged head, ringing in the ears, scoliosis, seizures, or vision disorder

Causes

The NF1 gene cause Neurofibromatosis type 1.

- There is no cure.

Treatment

Ophthalmologist: Specializes in eye diseases.

Neurosurgeon: Specializes in nervous system disorders.
