Global Connections

Our Instructional Technology focus for May is Global Connections. A significant aspect of technology is how it has made the world a smaller place. It allows company employees to collaborate on projects from different places around the globe. It allows grandparents to see and talk with grandchildren thousands of miles away. Our students can have some of these same advantages. We have arranged several Skype and video conference sessions with authors, a student, and distance field trips. You can see the schedule below. We encourage you to join us using Skype for one of these or arrange your own Skype/video conference session for your class. You may even want to connect your students with students in another school to work on a project together. Embrace our May focus and Get Connected!

Facebook/Twitter Connections Challenge

You may have seen the posts on Twitter or Facebook. You know…the ones with someone holding a sign that says “My kids bet me I couldn't get 50,000 likes. Please like this picture.”

Here’s your challenge. As a school or a classroom, post something using a teacher’s Facebook or Twitter account that asks people to like/share the post. Track how many and the different locations of the various people that like/share your post. You may want to use a map. On May 22nd, take a picture of your map or send Laura and Matt an email telling us how far your post went. This is a fun way to show kids how connected we are and how we should be cautious with what we post!
