Gold Fight Win Spirit Week
September is Pediatric Cancer Month. We have joined Humble ISD in fundraising to help stop childhood cancer. We will be having a Pep rally on September 24, 2021 to raise money and spread awareness. If you have personal experience with childhood cancer please complete this form. We would love to learn about your story.

WMS Core Class Updates
Social Studies
6th -Scholars have continued to study place, location, human environment interaction , movement and regions as they identify how these factors can influence culture. Scholars will be tested over Unit 2 September 28, 2021.
7th - Students have been learning about the early Native American tribes of Texas. They have learned about the complex lives many of the tribes lived and how they adapted and survived in their regions. The Regions & Native American exam has been moved to Monday, September 20th.
- 8th - This week, students completed their first Geography Test! We also analyzed the causes and effects of the French & Indian War. Next week, we will conclude this unit with our Unit 1.5 Test on Wednesday, September 22.
RELA
6th - This week students will focus on making inferences and use text evidence to support their understanding. Students will also use of literary devices, including omniscient and limited point of view, to achieve a specific purpose within a text.
7th - This week students will begin analyzing elements of poetry. Students will be able to compose their own poems based on various types of poetry discussed in class. We will review figurative language and include in our poems.
8th - Students will continue their daily independent reading and conferences about their reading. Students will review the elements of poetry, figurative language, and how to use TPCASTT to analyze a poem.
Science
6th - This week 6th grade is finishing up metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Next week we will begin studying how to calculate density, including a trip to the lab!
7th - On Friday we wrapped up our Cells unit (Cell Theory and the structure and function of organelles inside plants and animals). Students turned in their first project “Cell City” and completed their summative test. Next week we will begin our heredity and genetics.
8th- This week we started our week looking into the concept Pangea and then reviewing the three types of plate boundaries. Next week we will continue exploring plate boundaries, discussing convection currents and learning about topographic maps.
Math
6th - This week 6th grade is wrapping up their Integer Operation unit and moving on to Positive Rational Number Operations. Good Luck on your Unit 2 test!
7th - 7th Grade On Level just began their Ratios and Rates unit while PreAP will dive into Proportional and Nonproportional Functions. You are doing great 7th Grade- keep up that awesome effort!
8th - 8th Grade On Level just wrapped up their Equations unit and will start the Functions unit while Algebra tackles all things Slope and Linear Functions. 8th Grade- continue to show us that Math Scholar swag!
UIL Advanced Academics


WMS Orchestra
Beginner - Learning to use the bow on the instrument for the first time. We are having a competition of bow holds and cup passing for an exciting reward! We have begun learning songs to prepare for the FYO concert on October 20th.
Higher Levels - Continuing to prepare for Region (October 23rd) and the Hauntcert (October 28th). Starting vibrato, small chamber groups in class, and other fun activities to further their development.
WMS Orchestra Receives Mark of Excellence and Citation of Excellence
The 2020-21 Chamber Orchestra (Varsity) received Commended from from Mark of Excellence and 2020-21 Sinfonia Orchestra (Non Varsity) received Citation which is the highest honor for a non varsity. Great job to Heather Davis, Pedro Funes, and Mackenzie Cueto on this accomplishment in the 2020-21 School Year!
This is the fifth year in a row that Woodcreek Orchestra has received a Mark of Excellence award and this year we added another ensemble as well. We get to add 2 more banners to the orchestra room!

The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding groups from across the country. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners.
CITATION OF EXCELLENCE
The Citation of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by non-varsity high school and middle school bands and orchestras. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding non-varsity ensembles. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as Citation Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners.
21-22 WMS Yearbook Information
The 2021-2022 yearbook is on sale at www.balfour.com right now for $35.
On October 1, it will increase to $40.
On January 1, 2022, it will increase to $45.
Once we are sold out, we cannot order more yearbooks.
Student ads are also on sale. These are first come, first serve. Ads are to be purchased through the Balfour link above, and need to be completed by February 1, 2022.
Library/Media Center
- Students may begin signing up for the WMS Library Battle of the Books the first week of September. The sign up form is available through the Library Schoology group or by directly signing up from the newsletter. Sign up for 2021-22 WMS Library Battle of the Books today!
- Notices have been sent home with some students about missing books. Please return any checked out books as soon as possible to avoid library fines.

- Assigned After School Extended D-Hall...Also, other consequences may be assigned by the grade level assistant principal.
Below are the consequences that will be assigned for tardies:
- 1st & 2nd Tardy: Warnings
- 3rd & 4th Tardy: Parent Phone Call & After-School Detention
- 5th & 6th Tardy: Parent Conference & Thursday Class Assigned
- 7th+ Tardy: ISS Assigned and Intervention Planned w/Parents
**All tardies will be cleared at the conclusion of each 9-week grading period**
WMS CELL PHONE POLICY
Cell phones must not be visible during school hours unless they are being used in the classroom for instructional purposes, as determined by the teacher.
- 1st Offense: Parent will be contacted & the phone will be returned to the student at the end of the day.
- 2nd Offense: Parent will be contacted & the phone will ONLY be returned to the parent.
- 3rd Offense: Parent will be contacted, the phone will ONLY be returned to a parent/guardian, & ISS will be assigned to the student.
- 4th Offense: Parent will be contacted, cell phone will be checked-in daily & returned to the student at the end of the school day.
