For the week of May 9 - 13

Message from the Principal

CTJ community,

There are only 3 weeks of school left. AP testing is in week two and will go through May 13th. There is a calendar for all AP testing below. Good luck!

There is important information below regarding absences and Saturday School. There are only two opportunities left to make up attendance if you have 10 or more absences in a class. Please be sure to sign up if you need to make up attendance. If a student misbehaves while at Saturday School, they will be sent home on the first issue and receive no credit for attending. Students must bring school work to work on. Sleeping is not allowed during Saturday School.

We will have two Saturday Academies on May 14th & 21st for students needing additional help with their courses. At the Academy we will have teachers available to help students with their work in their Core classes. Please continue to keep up with grades and attendance as we finish the 2021-22 school year.

There is important information regarding Semester Exam Exemptions below. Please be sure you have read all the rules and important timelines/deadlines on exemptions.

Good luck to our Jags competing in the State Golf tournament, State Track meet, and 2nd round of the baseball playoffs this week. Be sure and read about all of the great accomplishments listed below! Reminder to check the Johnson webpage calendar for the many events taking place.

Exam Exemption FAQs

Exam Exemption Guidelines

Student Guide

Due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, attendance requirements for exam exemptions will be waived for the 2021 – 2022 school year only. The previous baseline course semester average of 80% has changed to an 85% because attendance is not part of the semester exam exemption criteria for the 2021 – 2022 school year. All other criteria still apply. Semester exam exemption guidelines will apply to all high school students who meet the following semester grade and criteria: 85% or above at midnight on 5/10/22. (please see attached NEISD Semester Exam Exemptions Guidelines 2021-2022 and FAQ)

If a student has a No Credit due to more than 9 absences in a class on 5/10/22, then they will not be able to exempt that class.

Students must submit their exam exemption request through Skyward during the exam exemption window: May 11th at 7:00am - May 13th, 2022 at 4:30 PM. (Instructions for entering exemptions will follow soon)

AP Testing Schedule

Please open the attached PDF for the AP testing logistics regarding locations and times for students testing. AP testing is the weeks of May 2nd and May 9th. Please use the picture below to see the full AP testing schedule.

Future CTJ Saturday Academy & Saturday School dates

Our next Saturday Academy dates (for instructional assistance) will be 5/14 & 5/21. This is to help struggling students complete course work to finish the last semester strong! This is a great opportunity to work with Johnson teachers to get assistance completing assignments/projects/test revisions in order to bring up their Semester 2 averages and to prepare for final exams.

To be eligible to attend the Academy:

  1. Students must have coursework to complete and be at risk of not graduating or not being promoted to the next grade.
  2. Students should have their own electronic device (we will also have desktop computers available).
  3. Students must attend the Academy from 8am-1pm (if work is completed, students do not need to attend the whole time).
  4. Students must follow the student code of conduct; disruptive students will be asked to leave and parents will need to pick them up

*There will be teachers at the Academy to assist students in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science - this may not be their regular classroom teacher.

Please fill out the link below to attend the Academy so that we can plan accordingly.

CTJ Twirlers and Success!

Our Jaguar Twirlers spin, leap, smile and repeat at competitions and this weekend was no different. 4 of our twirlers competed at the First Annual TWIRLIES competition sanctioned by the National Baton Twirling Association at Stevens High School, here in San Antonio. It was great preparation for the Texas State Twirl Championship scheduled on June 11-12 in Lubbock, TX. They all showed some strong routines and a big Shout-Out goes to Dylan Butler for winning her Beginner Pageant!

Also, congrats to a future Johnson Jaguar, Joslyn Rodriguez (current 6th grader at Tex Hill), sho was the pageant winner in her division at the First Twirlies Contest in San Antonio.
Joslyn had a complete sweep in the three areas that were judged in this baton twirling competition: she placed first in modeling, first in X-Strut and first in solo routine.

4 of our twirlers also performed at the Encino Park Elementary School alongside our drumline and dance team for their STAAR Pep Rally on Friday, May 6. (photo attached)
