The Upper East Tennessee Council of Teachers of Mathematics (https://www.etsu.edu/cas/math/activities/uetctm.php) is an organization for anyone involved in mathematics education from preschool through college in the greater Tri-Cities region. We meet multiple times throughout the school year and share ideas to support one another in teaching math. Come join us!

Breakout Session Descriptions
Presenters: Jordan Dison and Ashley Carlson
Description: We all know how important it is to provide students with opportunities to engage in meaningful problem solving! In this session, participants will explore online tools that make this possible even within a remote or virtual learning environment.
3-5: Using Whiteboard.Fi To Increase Student Engagement in a Virtual Math Class
Presenters: Alice Ann Smith and Sarah Asbury
Description: While teaching virtually, teachers run into many obstacles, but one that remains whether in the classroom or online is student engagement. Student engagement and showing what you know is vital in math classrooms. This session will dive into how utilizing free online platforms like Whiteboard.Fi helps educators to gain insight on student understanding and promote active learning all while keeping children loving math!
6-8: Getting "Real" with Desmos
Presenters: Lisa Reis and Amanda Milhorn
Description: This presentation will give you an opportunity to see Desmos from both the student and teacher point of view. You will learn how this program can be used to give feedback in real time. You will be shown how to search for Desmos activities that have already been created and learn how you can create your own.
9-12: Increasing Student Engagement During Remote Learning
Presenter: April Sims
Description: In this presentation, I will share my experience in using Desmos.com to increase student engagement, provide formative assessments, and build relationships with students while teaching remotely during the pandemic. I will present the teacher's perspective while providing participants an opportunity to interact as a student in a high school math class.
