The Mariner Message

Late Summer Edition

Sample Paragraph

Welcome all of our Mariner families, both new and returning! We hope you are enjoying your summer and gearing up for another wonderful school year. If you are new to us, we try and send out a parent newsletter once a quarter. These newsletters are a source of information about current & upcoming school events, curriculum updates, staff member introductions and much more! We always like to tell parents that if they would like to see different information please let us know. We love that kind of feedback! In the meantime enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing you later this month.

Why join the PTA?

The Perry Harrison Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) connects families to teachers and school leadership. We meet regularly and hope more parents will join us. To find out more and get involved, check out our website, follow us on Facebook, or email the PTA.

Here are a few more details about what you can do in the PTA:

- Be available to fellow parents who need help or are new to the school community.

- Get to know your children's teachers by regularly talking with them about what's going on at school.

- Volunteer to help out at the Fall Festival (October 22) or the Staff Appreciation committee. Contact Julie Ricker for more information.

- Help at the PTA thrift shop to raise money for our school. Sign up here and be on the lookout for Fall work group dates coming soon!

PHS - Full STEM Ahead!!

Welcome Back Mariners!! We have missed you! Your Mariner team has been busy preparing for one of your BEST years yet! We are excited about the upcoming year and the opportunities to continue to make learning meaningful and memorable!

We are still firm believers that STEM education teaches more than just science and math concepts. By using hands-on learning and real-world applications, we know we can help students develop creativity and critical thinking skills that in turn, develop a growth mindset as well as skills that are valued in any profession.

We are committed to staying on track and continuing our work towards building our STEM program and obtaining STEM accreditation from the State. We look forward to your continued support. Your time, talents, and opinions are important to us. If you are interested in joining us on our journey, please reach out to Amy Doty, adoty@chatham.k12.nc.us , or Dana Griffin, dgriffin@chatham.k12.nc.us, and let them know! We are always looking for classroom volunteers with projects, committee members to help with STEM nights throughout the year, after school club volunteers, STEM Fair volunteers, and supply drive donations.

We will start the year with our annual STOCK THE STEM LAB DRIVE! Donations will be collected in the front lobby of the school. Please know that all donations will be used to enhance STEM specials (something NEW this year!) and classroom projects. We also are in the beginning planning stages of a CAREERS IN STEM Family NIght for the fall. This will be a time to showcase STEM careers in and around our community. If you are interested in setting up a booth to share information about your profession, please let us know!

Again, we look forward to seeing you all soon! We hope you will CHOO-CHOOse to climb on board to make PHE the BEST it can be!
