Message from Mission Control
* I LOVE having CARE team meetings when I get to hear about multiple students, double digits even, making progress and moving OUT of Tier 3. Kuddos to 2nd grade and all of our helpers (Evelyn, Ashley, and our 2nd grade tutor) for making HUGE gains with these students. That's how CARE team meeting and RtI is supposed to work! Our students are making HUGE gains, and it's so nice to see (and hear) that all of your hard work is paying off!! Keep up the great work, EVERYONE!!
* From the feedback I have gotten, it seems to be the consensus to keep clubs the way they are. So, we will work to find time to incorporate the independent reading in other areas. So, please plan on a new set of clubs to begin at the end of the month. I will get the sign up sheets out this week. Thanks for all the feedback and responses. I appreciate everyone's candidness and collaboration to help make the best decision for the campus.
Campus News
* Please remind parents that we are having our Valentine's party on February 9th, NOT on the 14th. In fact, we have quite a few teachers out on the 14th to attend a reading training.
* The 5th grade position has been posted, so if you know of anyone who is interested in the position, and you haven't mentioned it to me, please let me know. We are beginning interviews this week for the SPED position, and I hope to get interviews set up next week for the 5th grade position.
* Benchmarks are this week, so please make sure you know the schedule differences and read the email that Bobby sent. Thank you all for your flexibility, as we work to get our kiddos prepared for spring testing.
* We have made some changes to TELPAS/STAAR training. We will have TELPAS training on Feb. 5th (next Monday), but we will push back STAAR training to Monday, March 5th. The manuals won't be here before then, and this will allow EVERYONE to make sure they can attend the STAAR training. Please do not schedule dr appts or tutoring/etc. on that afternoon. Thanks so much!!
* Thank you to EVERYONE who is helping out with UIL. Amarisa said that we have 16 students who are participating, which is the most, I believe, we have had! Thanks to all of you and a HUGE shout out to Amarisa for coordinating!
Great Expecations
This year, we will be implementing our GE life principles during announcements, as well as having the opportunity for kids to respond using the white interactive papers in the hallway (formerly used for vocabulary).
Each life principle will be talked about during a 1 week period. You will be getting the schedule sent this week, and it will also be posted on the One Note staff portal. We will discuss on announcements, and students will have the opportunity to write (or draw) how they show this life principle. For example, the first one is self discipline. They can write on the paper how they show or can use self discipline. This will require thinking and application... so it brings in the higher levels. We will talk about the expectations of how this will be used on the announcements, so the students are familiar with what is acceptable.
Just as the vocabulary has been done in the past, the life principles will remain posted on the wall, so that the students can see them and refer back to them. The Elk of the Month will be chosen based on the life principles that have been discussed for the month. Each student chosen will not have to demonstrate ALL of the life principles, but one or more.
This week, our life principle is:
Propriety- standard of what is socially acceptable in conduct or speech
