Center Caretaker Chat

Summer Fun

Dear Center Families,

I hope you have all enjoyed the first month of summer. It is hard to believe that we will all be back to school in 5 short weeks. The first day of school for 1st grade through 4th grade is August 28th. Kindergarten students will have an orientation on the 28th and will begin school on August 29th. (Caretakers of K students will be notified individually of their orientation time if they haven't already received information about this.)

Summer Reading Challenge:

I am eagerly awaiting more book blurbs from students sharing what they have read. You can write or send an email. I will write or email back, include your letter on the bulletin board by the cafeteria and include your name in a raffle of some books in the fall . As a bonus, I will give an extra recess to the grade level who send me the most book blurbs. A grade level will need a minimum of 10 book blurb submissions to earn the extra recess. Kalmin, 1st grade, shared that he enjoyed reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid this summer. What have you been reading?

Meet and Greet with Mr. Ramalho:

We are pleased to offer several opportunities to meet Mr. Ramalho, our new Assistant Principal over the summer. Join us for some read alouds in the community. Please press the buttons below for details.

Warm regards,

Currently Reading

I had fun reading this book to some students here for summer school today. This is a humorous and entertaining book for young and old alike with a surprising, yet dire message at the end about what happens when you take something that doesn't belong to you.

The Perfect Nest

I'm glad I took the time to read this book that Nora's Mom returned to the Center Library. It is an adorable story about a cat just trying to create a quiet place to rest and ends up with a lot of chaos and love.

The Truth of Me

Have you ever read a Patricia MacLachlan book? If not, now is the time to start. I don't think I have read a book of hers that I didn't like. I just started this one about a young boy spending the summer with his grandmother who has some special talents. If you are an animal lover, check this book out.
