Personal Projects
Sophomore students should be getting an idea for their personal projects and meeting with their supervisors. All sophomores need to join the Google Classroom for MYP projects. Classroom code : 4n530vw
Supervisors should be helping students focus and finalize their topic. Remember that the project must be tied to a global context. Students should submit their Topic Proposal in the Google Classroom by November 8.

Writing Contests
Selected poets are invited to attend an awards ceremony in the spring where they receive an award certificate and a copy of the year's anthology in which their work appears. The selected poems are read aloud during the ceremony, either by the poets themselves or a member of the judging panel.
All 4th-12th graders are invited to participate in Letters About Literature Texas! Read a book or poem and write a letter. This year’s contest will open on November 4, 2019. Submissions for 2019-2020 LAL Texas are due to the online submission platform by December 17, 2019. Be sure to read the submission steps (coming soon) and official rules set by the Texas Center for the Book at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. A permission form is required for all student participants who will be younger than 13 years of age on November 4, 2019.

About the Librarian
Jennifer De Waelsche has been a librarian with SAISD for eight years. This is her fourth year at Burbank High School. Before coming to SAISD, she taught speech, debate, yearbook, and English for Hereford ISD in the Texas Panhandle. She is passionate about technology and is happy to work with teachers and students that want to integrate more technology. She is also a competitive Scrabble player and loves to ride roller coasters (196 so far).
She is the recipient of the SAISD Foundation Inspire Award in 2015 and member of the Texas Library Association TALL Texans Class for 2016. She is an active member of the Texas Library Association and actively presents at local and state library conferences.
