A note from the teachers...

Dear Parents,

Below is a link to the 3rd Grade Milestones Resource/Study Guide. This is a very lengthy document, but it may answer questions you have about the Milestones test. Please make a note that the test will be given during the weeks of April 18th and 25th. It is very important that students are present each day of testing.

Also, please remember that we do not have school Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Have a great weekend!

Relay for Life Used Book Sale

Attention Readers! Puckett's Mill Relay for Life Team is having a Used Book Sale and we need book donations to make this successful. If you have gently used books at home and want to make room for new books, we will be accepting donations all next week. Collection boxes will be in your teacher's classroom. During the week of January 25th, each class will have an opportunity to purchase books for only $1.00 each. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.

What are we doing next week?

  • Reading – Students will continue finding morals, or lessons, to stories. We will learn about Fairy Tales, and read several samples to find the moral of the story. Students will practice finding text evidence to answer questions about what they have read.
  • Writing – We will begin to analyze and respond to multiple texts.
  • Word Study/Spelling - This week, students will learn the prefix "co-,con" which means with or together. We will learn how the prefix changes the meaning of the base word. On Tuesday, your child will be given a list with examples of co-, con words to place in their agenda binder. They do not have to learn to spell the words, but should learn the meanings of the words and/or how to use them correctly in sentences. Our "co-,con" Word Study Quiz will be on Friday, January 22.
  • Grammar - Next week we will learn about prepositions and prepositional phrases.
  • Math – We will wrap up our Geometry Unit with a test on Friday. Next week we will focus on partitioning figures, as well as reviewing for our test.
  • Social Studies - Students will continue our unit on world changers during the Great Depression, including Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. Students will have a Franklin D. Roosevelt's vocabulary quiz on January 19. You can study each set of words using the following Quizlet links: Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Eleanor Roosevelt. There will not be a quiz over the Eleanor Roosevelt words, but they will appear on our unit test. The unit test is currently scheduled for February 5th.
