What's Going On At Veritas In November!

November 1, 2022

What a busy October! Thank you for you contributions to the Terrace Churches Food Bank for our "Oodles of Noodles" campaign. Some classes have already enjoyed trips to the Aquatic Center, with more classes scheduled to go in November. The grade 5 class did a fantastic job leading our October school-wide Mass. Thank you to all the families who attended Student-Led Conferences! It was lovely to watch students shine with pride! Finally, the teachers of St. Anthony School in Kitimat and Annunciation School in Prince Rupert came to Veritas School to collaborate with our teachers. We are looking forward to a busy November, with Praise Club beginning on Fridays, NET presenting to our grade 6-9 classes for two days, and volleyball season in full swing!

VPSG Executive: The VPSG Executive includes Birke Araujo as Chair, Ashley Medeiros as Vice-Chair, and Gillian McCutcheon as Secretary. We are still in need of a Treasurer!

Fundraisers: Thank you for participating in the Davison Orchards apple fundraiser! The Mom's Pantry fundraiser is open until November 15: momspantry.ca, Order #: 360184, Group Password: 13938

Other fundraisers coming up prior to Christmas include Art Card by Kids, Purdy's Chocolates, and Christmas Dessert Trays. If you are interested in assisting with any of the fundraisers, including baking for the dessert trays, please contact Birke Araujo at birkepferd@hotmail.com

Fundraising Monies: This year's fundraising goal is $30 000! Watch for the progress thermometer in the December newsletter.

Hot Lunch: Hot Lunch has begun with Pizza Hut each Monday and other lunches scheduled for Wednesdays. The operation of Hot Lunch relies on classroom reps and volunteers to assist each Monday and Wednesday; if volunteers are not found, that week of Hot Lunch may be cancelled. Hot lunch orders can be placed a minimum of one week in advance at https://munchalunch.com/schools/veritascatholicschool/

Parent Reps and Volunteers: The successful operation of the VPSG is dependent on parent volunteers! A parent representative is needed for each class. Parent reps attend monthly VPSG meetings, arrange volunteers for hot lunch for the month assigned to their class, assist with fundraisers, and assist the classroom teacher where necessary. If you are interested, please contact your classroom teacher or the VPSG.

Minutes: The minutes from the October VPSG meeting can be accessed here: https://www.veritascatholicschool.ca/vpsg-minutes

Additional Notes

Dressing for the weather: Please remember to ensure your child comes to school properly dressed for the weather, whether that be rain and wind or snow and cold! Students go outside, unless there is thunder and lightening or the wind chill is colder than -20 degrees Celsius.

Ill Children: If your child is ill, please keep them home until their symptoms have improved!

Remembrance Day: Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held at 10:45 on Wednesday, November 10 and will be presented by our Grade 4 and 9 classes. All are welcome to attend!

NET Team: The NET Team will be at Veritas on November 3 and 4 for two great days with our grade 6 - 9 students. If you have offered to bake muffins for these days, please deliver them to the school office on Wednesday, November 2 or Thursday, November 3.

School Council: The third School Council meeting is on Thursday, November 10 at 7:00pm at the school. The meeting begins with an open invitation to all, before we move to the in-camera portion of the meeting. The mandate of School Council is to oversee the operation of Veritas School, including finances and staffing. Minutes from previous School Council meetings can be accessed here: https://www.veritascatholicschool.ca/school-council

Before School Supervision: The supervision of students prior to the 8:35 bell is limited to the front of the school and the parking lot area. For the safety of our students, they are not permitted on any playground equipment (front playground or kindergarten area) before school hours.
Absentee Notes: Please contact the school explaining your child's absences with a Seesaw message to Office Staff and your child's teacher. Absentee reports are crucial to our school's funding, as numerous unexplained absences throughout the school year can mean less government funding for your child.
