SAVE THE DATE - Homecoming Dance
Our homecoming dance will be Saturday, November 5th, 7-11 PM. Students must be at the dance by 9 PM. We will have more information about the dress up days and when to purchase tickets coming soon!
Nicknames or Preferred Names - myStudent
We know many students go by a nickname or preferred name that is not their legal name. We want all students to feel welcomed and comfortable at our school. Based on the Bill of Rights, we need parents to go into the system and update the "Preferred Name/Nickname" field which will give us permission to refer to your child by that name if you are ok with it. For example, if your child's name is Alexander but they go by Alex that will need to be in the system under "Preferred Name/Nickname."
In order to complete this process, please login to your parent portal account for myStudent.
Click on the child you want to add a preferred name for if you have more than one child in the system. Then, click on "child info." Next, click on "demographic." You will scroll to see "preferred name/nickname." Enter the name here and then at the top right, hit save.
Attendance Procedures
Attendance Procedures (Student Code of Conduct)
All elementary, middle and high school students who are absent will be marked “unexcused” (U) until the parent/guardian notifies the school in writing and justifies the absence with one of the acceptable reasons as defined below. Failure to do so within three (3) school days will cause the absence to be recorded as “unexcused”. In the case of excessive or extended absences, which are claimed to be due to illness, upon request of the principal or designee, a parent must provide documentation (doctor’s statement) of a student’s illness. Excessive or extended absences are considered five (5) in one calendar month or ten (10) in one semester, or a history of excessive absences per period as defined below under Student Consequences for Unexcused Absences. Absences that meet this threshold as defined above will require a doctor’s note. If doctor’s notes are not provided, absences will be marked as unexcused.
Reasons for acceptable (excused) absences include but are not limited to:
• Illness of student
• Major illness in the immediate family of the student (immediate family is determined as parents, brothers,
sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, legal guardians or persons “in loco parentis,” or a member of one’s own
household)
• Death in the immediate family of the student
• Religious holiday of the student’s faith (including Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Epiphany, etc.)
• Religious instruction (including Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, etc.)
• Religious institutes, conferences, or workshops, provided that the principal or designee approves the absence in advance
• Absences for trips or other parental requests: Requests must be approved at least one (1) week in advance
• In-school or out-of-school suspension
• Subpoena or forced absence by any law enforcement agency, a copy of the subpoena or court summons must be submitted to the school
• For purposes of attendance, school related activities would not be counted as absences from school
• Issues and occasions specific to military families

Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Thank you for helping us improve the flow of traffic and maintain safety. If you choose the Innovation Drive route, the left lane should remain open, unless you need to pull over and wait. The left lane is for parents/guardians who have to wait for a student. If driving in the right lane, please move forward, as far as you can, in the direction of the police car. This allows more space for vehicles to line up along the pick up zone. To keep our students safe, we ask students not to cross the street, instead remain on the sidewalk until the car is in the pick up zone. Thanks for your help and patience.
Please know that the student parking lot is only for student drivers and those parents who have been approved because they have to get their child to a practice at another school. We need your help with keeping our students safe and remaining in the appropriate locations. If you do not have a student-athlete who is currently in season, please join one of the car lines that has been establish so we can continue to get every student out safely and as quick as possible. I'll continue to monitor that area and will assign parking passes if needed so we know which cars should be in student parking.
Thank you for your assistance with this.
