Happy New Year

Happy 2018 to our TMS students and their families. We are very impressed with our students' readiness to return to their academic routines and responsibilities. We have a few reminders as we kick off 2018:

• Please check in with your child about whether they are in need of additional school supplies for the second half of the school year, need your assistance locating a lost library book or textbook, or need money to purchase or replace a PE uniform (grades 7/8 only). Your help is appreciated!

• Arriving to school on time each morning, and being picked up on time at the end of the school day is extremely important. Students are NOT allowed to stay after school and "hang out" since there is no one to provide supervision after 3:15 pm, with the exception, of course, of after-school tutoring, detention, or TMS sports. Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of our students.

• Please make sure that your child is properly dressed and wearing weather-appropriate shoes every day. Sandals and other open-toed shoes are not practical for rainy days, and sleeveless and short-sleeved tops are not recommended for the winter temperatures. If your child is in need of a coat - or other clothing items, in general - please contact the district's Student and Family Liaison, Schad Schweitzer, at (707) 263-2190.

Bringing Attendance Home: Parent Video

The High Cost of School Absenteeism

High rates of absenteeism have all too predictable - and unfavorable - outcomes. For example, according to a report from the Office of the Attorney General, students who do not earn a high school diploma are 8 times more likely to end up incarcerated. Today's attendance gaps will translate into tomorrow's achievement gaps. Over the course of the last four years, California schools lost $4.5 billon as a result of absenteeism, and as few as two missed days each month is enough to make students less likely to graduate high school.

Nurse Mayra's Advice on Flu Season

Flu season is here!

It is a "bad Influenza A season" and it is just peaking. We will not hesitate to send students home as necessary to help eliminate possible spread of the virus. As a reminder, please keep your students home if they have any flu-like symptoms which include:

fever, body aches, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people, and if your student becomes sick, limit his/her contact with others. When possible, have your child stay home for at least 24 hours after a fever is gone. Make sure they cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and wash their hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
