IB PYP Trait for December
This month's learner profile trait, Open-Minded fits perfectly with the upcoming holiday season! Being open-minded means we appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. Most importantly, this trait reminds us to always keep an open-mind and a compassionate heart. The excitement is building in the classrooms as our students learn and explore many different cultures and traditions celebrated during these next few months. Did you know that from November 1st to January 15th there are approximately 29 holidays observed by 7 of the world's major religions? Holidays Around the World units allow the students to "journey" to other nations and appreciate the many ways people celebrate these holidays. Having an open-mind helps us all seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and grow from the experience. Happy Holidays everyone!
Staff Member Spotlight for December
Mr. Alvaro Gutierrez is our IT person on campus. Can you imagine, one IT person for a campus of our size? He is pulled in so many directions and serves our campus with a smile. From simple things like helping students sign on to computers to more complex computer crashes, Mr. G. is always there.
Mrs. Kerry Bradshaw is our Gifted teacher and our ESOL Coordinator. She has been teaching for several years and was looking for a different direction this year. She has been training and learning all about the ESOL Coordinator position while on the job. We have about an 11% population that require ESOL testing and services and this is no small feat. She continues to do her job with a cheery smile and is one of the hardest working members of our staff.
Mrs. Tiffany Roberson is new to Frankin Academy and the 1st grade team, but not new to teaching. Mrs. Roberson is a team player and we have really enjoyed observing her with her students and team mates. She is always doing fun projects with her students and her classroom could be used as a model for others. We were very lucky to have been able to hire her this year.
Meet our Art Department
Mr. Thuan Tran has been the art teacher for middle school since our inception. He really enjoys what he is teaching and the students have a tremendous love for his class. His class is a chosen elective and all of his periods are full. He teaches art history and then the students make their own art pieces based on the learning they did.
Mrs. Alissa Hegele is in her 5th year teaching art here at Franklin Academy to our elementary classes. The art that she helps these students produce is amazing. Mrs. Hegele taught elementary school previously, but art is her real passion. Her classroom is welcoming and full of color and her students enjoy the projects she works on with them.
The picture below were projects from both middle and elementary school that were featured at our Franklin wide art show in our Pembroke Pines K-12 school earlier this month.
