On February 7th, Sweetwater Union HSD hosted its annual Science & Engineering Fair at Otay Ranch High School. Congratulations to all participants and good luck to our students moving forward to the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair.

SoCal CyberSecurity Teams
Castle Park High School & Eastlake Middle School Cyber Security Teams are moving forward to the finals on March 25 at UCSD. Congratulations!
Olympian High Engineering Students
On Feb 11, a team of engineering students from Olympian High led by Mr. Avasan placed 3rd on Digital Electronics and Rube Goldberg Design competitions at the Annual SDSU Engineering Olympics hosted by the Pacific Asian Society of Engineers.

2017 SDSU MESA Day
Every year MESA-SDSU hosts competitions among all MESA Program schools. Student teams compete to test and demonstrate their engineering projects.
Southwest High School, Sweetwater High School, and Granger Jr. High School participated this year. Our students secured top places in several competitions.

On March 8th The Festival of Science & Engineering came to Chula Vista! and Sweetwater Union HSD students and staff were there. Alternative Education, Castle Park High School, Sweetwater High School, and Hilltop Middle School.

Royal robotics performed in the top 15 of the middle school state championship division and Team 6446B received the "Design Award" that qualifies it for the VEX Worlds Competition!

2017 VEX Worlds Championship will take place on April 19-22, 2017 at Kentucky Exposition Center. Our VEX teams will face teams not just within our country but from around the world; Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, China, France, Hong Kong, among others.

On March 11, 2017 Sweetwater Union HSD hosted its annual Math Field Day. 11 SUHSD schools participated in this fun event. Congratulations to all participants!

March 14 is recognized across the math world as Pi Day, thanks to the resemblance of the date "3/14" to the first three digits of mathematics' most famous constant.

San Diego FIRST Robotics Competition
Here are the highlights:
Eastlake High School | FRC # 2543 "TitanBot"
TitanBot ranked 8th and participated in quarterfinals. It's robot driver was ranked in the top 15th best drivers of the regional. Very Good Job Titans!
TitanBot next event Sacramento Regional on March 22-25 Good Luck!
Sweetwater High School | FRC # 3704 "RoboSapiens"
RoboSapiens had tough luck in their alliance ranking matches. They ranked 55th with a record of 2-5-1 (W-L-T). Well played Devils!
Montgomery High School | FRC # 4616 "Pharaohs"
The Pharaohs had a record of 4-3-1 (W-L-T) and ranked 28th in the regional. Good Job Aztecs!
Southwest High School | FRC # 5627 "Pi-rtz"
The Pi-rtz robot driver ranked 7th in the regional! After qualification matches, the team ranked 11th with a record of 5-3-0 (W-L-T). Team FRC 5627 took home several awards:
- Xavier Balladarez received FIRST Dean's List Finalist Award
- Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen
- Safety Award sponsored by Underwriters Laboratories

San Diego State University is hosting their annual Science and Engineering Sampler as part of Explore SDSU. The event targets K-12 students and their families and showcases nearly 30 interactive activities including telescopes, laser demonstrations, and robotics.
